Quite tall. Social justice worrier.

I’ve stepped back from my COO role at Digi2al, though I’m still a proud co-founder and cheerleader. It’s been wonderful slowing down, spending time with family, learning new things and volunteering. Grateful for the breather and happily continuing my career break while wondering what will come next.
Properly lovely to catch up with my friend (and my former boss) @andysc.bsky.social

In need of a hearty breakfast, so I’ve dipped some crumpets in some egg and popped them in the air fryer. French crumpets.

2500 BC: Beaker folk
43 AD: Romans
5th C: Anglo-Saxons
9th–11th C: Vikings
1066: Normans

All immigrants who colonised Britain.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe makes good cars but he is sadly both racist and thick.

Building a simple midi drums rhythm game in TouchDesigner. Using those particular lanes for kick, snare and hihat was not a coincidence; they match the sheet music notation for drums.

Good: McSweeney resigns. Bad: McSweeney somehow thinks he was in the government.
Morgan McSweeney has resigned from government

I got a DF Audio Minibay v2 today. I think it’s the perfect patchbay for a Eurorack setup. Next job: wiring up the 12x ins, 12x outs and 8x effects. And after that: creativity!

I just spent 20 minutes helping my 90 year old neighbour buy three things he wanted on Temu. He needed a fair bit of help to make it to the end of the transaction without being trapped. Anyone at that company involved in product, design, user research or bloody ‘growth’ should be thoroughly ashamed.

“You mean like Queen Victoria?”

I’ve made some small upgrades to my motorbike recently: a radiator guard and two pannier rails. Now shopping for black leather pannier bags.

Before my time with The Pensions Regulator is done, I'd love to figure out how I could get paid to organise all the cross-gov things.

Not fussed what combination of people or organisations fund me (public, private, voluntary sector, etc) within reason.

This won’t be a surprise to anyone who knows him, but that @harrym.com remains as interested and interesting about tech, data, security and business as ever. Lovely to catch up with him, and came away buzzing with positivity.

Realising that while everything from 3D printing technology to screen pixel resolution has been improving over the past few years, my eyesight has simultaneously been deteriorating. I don’t know what to trust.

Something that unsettled me following a tooth extraction: it’s not uncommon afterwards to undergo a mildly uncomfortable process of ‘spicule sequestration’. Good news: not leftover bits of tooth coming to the surface. Bad news: spiky bits of jawbone. Sheesh. Dentistry continues to horrify me.

ChatGPT loves telling me that things are non-negotiable and meaningful. Even very negotiable and meaningless things. The more I use it as a buddy/rubber duck/developer journal for coding projects the more excruciatingly irritating I find its random reversion to chipper thought-leadership bullshit.

Does Steve Lamaq always ride the fader this harshly when talking over a track on 6 Music? I love him to bits but that was a painful couple of minutes.

Contemplating a rewatch of Industry in advance of the new series. I remember it being amazing (gripping, jaw dropping) but also a pretty tough watch (gritty, grotty) in parts though.
