For the record, when I need facial plane reference, I use William Nguyen's models on ArtStation. They have adjustable primary and secondary lighting, and can be rotated to be viewed from every angle.

To me, I thinks it's the finishing touches of the rendering phase of painting characters, especially with artistic nudes. When I add the skin texture, the freckles, the subtle veins, the body hair, the bounce light in specific areas, etc. It makes the character come alive to me. 🥰

1st painting of the year! Was haunted by the image of two gentlemen stripping down to enter a magical little gingerbread bathhouse in the woods. It looks small from the outside, inside is a gigantic labyrinth equipped with hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, massage pods, & mazes corridors. 😈
