The lyrics to ITV's This Week were of course "it's This Week, not next week, not last week, no it's This Week".

Been reading Hannah Storm's recent book on mental health for journalists, and something in particular resonated.
Vicarious Trauma and Journalists — Iain Hepburn
The term vicarious trauma has been applied to what journalists encounter. It was a phrase originally intended to cover the experience of therapists working with trauma survivors, but which has now be...

"I brought out an optimistic side which is usually sadly lacking in Strindberg". Another David wrote that.

Just rewatched Artemis 8..1.. for the first time in far too long, and cooing at it, so obviously now diving into this...
We're chasing the viewers again with our new podcast, which is all about David Rudkin's 3-hour 5-minute sci-fi epic which aired on BBC1 during Christmas 1981. Yes, it is, of course, time for Artemis 81: youtu.be/8AK6uooDJpo (Audio version wherever you get your podcasts).

"I AM NOW ABOUT TO HAND OVER A JOKE ABOUT THE DALEKS' MASTERPLAN TO MAVIC CHEN"
I have a joke about Timelash. I'll explain it later.
I have a joke about Once, Upon Time but an episode of The Flash did it first

I've got a joke about The Aztecs and I can't rewrite it, not one line

I've got a joke about The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos but it's so ridiculously longwinded and poorly constructed it's not even funny.

I have a joke about Earthshock but the Restoration Team won't let you see the best bit

Penda's Fen is also just one of the wonderful things about Grant Morrison-era Doom Patrol. #pendasfen

This rhyme is just one of the wonderful things about Penda's Fen. #pendasfen

Very, very recommended. #pendasfen
Publication day for Penda's Fen: Scene By Scene. It's a non-chronological kaleidoscope of adventure through my favourite Play for Today. It was a thrill to mine the earlier drafts of Rudkin's script, which throw up so much new info. You can order it here: tenacrefilms.bigcartel.com/product/pend...

Admiring The Bombing of Pan Am 103 and not being too distracted by my building at the University of Stirling posing as American buildings - FBI Quantico this week. (Those bits shot in May 2024, I reckon.) Outlander only pretend we're the University of Glasgow when they shoot there.

Saw the news about Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o. Much, and personal, respect, starting in the 1990s, immersing myself in
Ngũgĩ and Ayi Kwei Armah (together in my undergraduate dissertation) and Buchi Emecheta and Ama Ata Aidoo (for essays before it). Sorry to lump together in one post such different journeys.

Following up Doom Patrol with Hull FC. Your joke is probably wrong.

Revisiting Doom Patrol, the best superhero series (even more than Legends of Tomorrow). First season doing the Grant Morrison run but without the Penda's Fen references. Much neglected in the UK for distribution reasons (though not as messed about as Batwoman and the ace Superman & Lois).

Still glad that #Eurovision2025 introduced me to Tautumeitas. More news when we get it.
May 22, 2025 at 6:57 PM
The day after #Eurovision2025 and still loving the Latvia song (Tautumeitas). It is sending me back to Mwng and I will watch any Orphan Black spin-off that uses that as its theme tune. Not a classic year for #Eurovision so the only two earworms this morning are Latvia and, surprisingly, the UK

This mash-up is like #Eurovision has broken out at last.

I have been a bit distracted since the cameo by the male co-presenter who looked like Krycek, although it is possible that he may not have been up to owt. Still early though. #Eurovision

I loved Latvia but/because I always the love the ones that remind me of Super Furry Animals b-sides. #Eurovision

I wrote a short piece about DS9 episode The Darkness and the Light and terrorism in this fun/fan collection which is out in July. Preorders have just opened. (Before recently working my way through DS9, I wouldn't have called myself a Trek fan, but now...)
