If we weren't at such a weird moment in history, the collapse of Assad's regime would be widely understood as a huge success for the Biden administration, which pursued sanctions on Russia and Iran as well as Syria, armed Ukraine and thus weakened Russia, and supported Syrian democrats and activists

Though the election was a disaster, one good thing to have come out of this election is the death of identity and victimhood politics. You can't woo voters of colors with feel-good nonsense when the inflation is high. Democrats got this if they just re-focus on the real issues.

Every second wasted on whether Haley can thread some mythical needle is one that could have been spent rebuilding political journalism to meet the challenge of covering fascism. Right now, what we have is a machine built to cover the Haleys of the world, failing to report fully on Trumpism.

It's really common for people in abusive relationships to enable their abusers by producing elaborate rationalizations for how standing up for themselves will just make the abuse worse. Hard not to see stuff like "this will just make trump a martyr!" in this light
