Medical culture tends to approach preventable tragedies as teachable moments. This is a mistake. **Crises are opportunities to show people what you can do for them, not to ask them to change their minds.**

The new @unaids.org report shows we were closer than in decades to ending AIDS by 2030, yet new #HIV infections stayed flat in ’24, and even before funding cuts, efforts weren’t enough to drive them down. We must double down with bolder, more strategic action to drive real decline.
In 2025, sudden US funding cuts and reductions from key donors shocked the global AIDS response.

Today, we're releasing a new report showing how these disruptions unfolded & the resilience of communities and countries protecting progress.

Among the many things Carl Dieffenbach was working on: the re-competition and renewal of #HIV clinical research networks: ACTG, HPTN, HVTN, IMPAACT.
As someone who has worked in HIV for 35+ years, I can tell you Carl is a consummate scientific leader. We’ve been lucky to have him at head of DAIDS. The only thing that wins here is the virus.

Important Long-COVID Lessons From AIDS Researchers
The search for long-COVID treatments echoes the previous struggles against HIV/AIDS. Now researchers are taking lessons from those breakthroughs to make new progress.

It's updated in real time, features historical weather data, and has camera views for those of us who work in windowless offices

The attacks on HIV clinical research have largely dropped out of the news, but the repercussions remain.

The effects overseas are even greater.
Trump slashed spending on clinical trials. The toll is starting to become clear.
Grants for 383 clinical trials were terminated and the funding disruptions affected more than 74,000 trial participants, according to new research.

The sex ed you get depends on your ZIP code — and your state’s politics
In some states, students learn about consent and healthy relationships. In others, they get "Baby Olivia" and abstinence-only instruction.
