Opinions are my own... sometimes my employer's... probably not yours.
The best way to vote on this (or any other nonbinding resolution that comes up in Congress) is neither "Yea" nor "Nay."

The best way to vote is "Present."

Props to @bynum.house.gov and @ross.house.gov for being the two members who didn't play along.
The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

86 Dems joined Republicans in supporting the measure, incl. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Two things can be true at once:

a) Trump has been threatening orders that would be illegal, and Kelly et al. had every right to state the law, and

b) They knew that Trump was bound to lose his shit, because he's a moron who doesn't know or care about the law... and they played him to perfection.
Mark Kelly: "He's talked about sending troops into more cities, he's talked about invoking the Insurrection Act. You don't have to go too far back to his 1st administration when he went to his Sec Def & said, 'Can't we just shoot these protesters in the legs.' That is an example of an illegal order"

Unlike most Americans, the owner of the Washington Post will actually be allowed in the ballroom. So of course he's defending it.

I thought journalist ethics required you to disclose your stake if you're writing about investments. But this is 2025.

Yes, make Pritzker the first governor in Illinois history to be acquitted in a criminal trial. Brilliant.

Well said. Poll after poll shows Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy, so now is the perfect time for him to spend $350 million on a ballroom that most Americans will never be allowed to enter.

Crazy idea, but maybe Schumer should call Johnson's bluff, and vote for the "clean" bill to end the shutdown after all.

He's done a great job of elevating the Obamacare issue... and now he could say "okay Mike, Congress is back, now fix it. And swear in Rep. Grijalva while you're at it. Tick tock."
BREAM: Open enrollments starts in November. People are already getting notices about what they may pay. I mean, that's gotta be resolved.

And as is so often the case, a target of censorship wound up with more free publicity than they could have imagined.

Just like 2 Live Crew, Howard Stern, you name it.

Okay, so companies and viewers will keep moving to streaming, which is beyond the FCC's reach.

Which sucks for people who can't get broadband. But it's not going to help his failing approval ratings.
After the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, President Trump suggested networks that give him bad publicity should “maybe” have their licenses taken away.

If I ever run for Congress, I'll pledge to vote "present" (or "I don't give a shit") on every single nonbinding resolution that comes up.

Even if you agree or disagree with every word, resolutions like this have zero policy impact. And they are promptly forgotten after the vote is over.
Rep. Jamie Raskin says he will be voting for the House's Charlie Kirk resolution. “We should overlook whatever surplus verbiage is contained in this Resolution designed to make the vote difficult for Democrats. We cannot fall for that obvious political trap and should rise above it."

This isn't the first time a party has used a "nuclear option" to change the rules in the Senate. And it won't be the last.

And each change has made it easier for the other party, when the shoe has wound back up on the other foot.
NEW: Republican-led Senate votes to confirm 48 Trump nominees at once

After triggering the "nuclear option" to change the rules and allow en bloc votes by a simple majority.

A party-line vote of 51-47.

And a very important new precedent for the Senate.
