Don’t hate people. Live and let live. Practice kindness. He/him. Former/recovering elected official in VA. Therapist. Spelling challenged.
I didn’t expect my hastily prepared skeet about Super Bowl food to get so much attention. I probably would have checked it for spelling errors if I had. But it’s so cool to hear from and connect with so many people. Have a great day everybody. Go Hawks!

I made Asian bbq salmon for thr super-bowl (go Seahawks). The glaze has rye whisky, teriyaki, tomato paste, garlic, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, and gotuchang. #alxskeets

This essay should be required reading for everybody, especially politicians. Modern finance is killing America. It is sucking the marrow from the bones of democracy. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/06/o...

These new maps are ridiculous. They will make it hard for communities to be well represented. They are also essential for Democracy because the US President has declared war on democratic process and tradition. His extreme actions started this and anybody who loves our democracy can’t let him win.
NEW: Virginia Dems have unveiled their proposed 10-1 congressional map in response to GOP gerrymanders in other states. It targets 4 Republicans & has 10 Harris seats.

It will be used in 2026 contingent upon an April 21 voter referendum.

One thing we forget about the news: it builds community.

Local sports. School plays. City council meetings. The kid who did something amazing. Updates on what your local and state officials are actually doing.

That shared information becomes shared culture.

If Hillary has to testify about Epstein, Melania definitely does.

So many Dems talking about affordability now with little substantive thought about how to get there. Our entire economy is wired to support wealth redistribution to the highest earners. We need to change that or the middle class will keep getting squeezed.

My new moto for Alexandria City Council candidates: “If you are not ready for a sneckdown, I’m not voting for you”

If I was a second amendment fanatic, I’d be very worried that the government may kill me if I ever disagree with them.

How do we protect ourselves from ICE taking over cities? They have made it clear they are not accountable and will use force against citizens.
January 24, 2026 at 5:24 PM
So Trump admitted he won’t work to lower home prices because it may impact some Boomers that have benefited from a scarce and constrained market. Talk about leaving thing shitty for every other generation and the future of America.
January 24, 2026 at 1:19 AM
Thinking about my work on the Alexandria Police review Board and the care and attention given to use of force and training for our City’s Officers. The unserious way ICE is managing force goes against all best practices for managing conflict.

Waiting patiently (or not) for Dems to realize that caring about affordability means they will have to change other priorities.

Lines at the stores already. Bread, milk, eggs, dark chocolate, wine, and bourbon. I feel ready.

So all of Alexandria BlueSky is running for the open City Council seat? Can we agree campaign activities can only happen on this platform?
January 22, 2026 at 5:14 PM
Excited about @kirkmcpike.bsky.social ‘s big win. Alexandria on track to have a very impressive state legislative team with Kirk and @ebpforva.bsky.social . Can’t say enough about how great this is.

The President’s dementia is about to destroy NATO, our international alliances, our peace and prosperity. It is already turning former (?) allies towards our rivals. Article 25 please.

I hate sore losers. Sore losers that also lie about it are even worse. Former Delegate Mark Levine sent out an email today claiming he lost the State Senate primary because Elizabeth Bennet Parker had inside information about Adam Ebbin’s resignation that gave her an unfair advantage. Thoughts:

Watch our national democracy crumble can be hard on the soul. Some hope out of Virginia today is a pleasant change of pace.

I am concerned we don’t have more of a panic in our school systems with growing evidence technology is not helping us in schools and is more likely slowing learning and cognitive growth. We are literally making our kids dumber. Add in phone and social media and we are truly regressing.

With that new Federal food pyramid I feel a lot less guilty about taking shots of clarified butter with a bourbon chaser and noshing on salt covered beef flank. It’s good to know these things are RFK approved.
January 15, 2026 at 8:45 PM
Always taken aback by misogyny…especially around a Democratic nominating event. Elizabeth Bennet-Parker crushed everybody for the State Senate nomination and now I see bitter supporters of other candidates trying to cut her down with lies. Get over it men.
January 14, 2026 at 2:59 PM
I love seeing all these excited Dem voters out canvassing for their candidates for the upcoming state senate primary. Democracy is beautiful.

I’ve known Adam Ebbin since the early ’90s—back when he was president of Virginia Partisans and I became its first straight member. We celebrated holidays together, helped each other, and yes, even ran against each other for State Senate. Through it all, we stayed friends.
