Contemporary German novelists translated into English worth checking out: Jenny Erpenbeck, the late Wolfgang Hilbig and Clemens Meyer. Meyer’s While We Were Dreaming is extraordinary novel about a group of adolescents/young men in E. Germany as the Wall fell
guys there's a ton of good German artists across all disciplines it's just that most of it doesn't get translated because English speaking readers have very weird ideas about translated literature that the rest of the world doesn't share
