Serranos from a second season plant has provided lots of early pods for sauce
Hot wax thicker pods have resisted getting sunburned or wilting from extreme heat (leaf curl from storm rains New year), they'll be good for frying with other peppers for a spicy sauce

After 4 days of above 40C, the chilli plants have sprung back to life with cooler temperatures
This chocolate bih Jolokia was totally wilted in hot winds yesterday, fortunately leaf drop was the only issue, some other plants have sunburned pods and wind burnt foliage

Caribbean reds I've grown for over 12 years from a mystery seed pack
Possibly Fresno peppers from what I could research
They have a sweet pepper flavour with a bite of jalapeno, yet they get much hotter second season
Good as Sliders, stuffed or combined with hotter peppers for sauce #Hotpeppers 🌶️🌱

Pest control herbs & marigolds have attracted the first honey bees to my garden in 3 summers since the varroa mite killed off hives around the state
2 bees arrived just after Xmas, each couple of days more bees arrived, today I counted 7 awesome honeybees 🐝🐝

3 types of melon finally fruiting with pyrethrum helping keep the pests away
Not sure if the lite green/white melon is a rockmelon or honeydew melon

Thanks to @fraying.bsky.social for sauce idea
First pods of summer 10 x Serranos & 8 x mini sweet peppers,I guessed water salt sugar ratios
Using 150ml of vinegar for 300 grams of pepper flesh, altogether made 500ml of medium hot sauce #Hotpeppers 🌱🌶️ ( it was 44C today so I cooked indoors) 🥵

Nectarines I'm hoping to enjoy before fruit flies attack
Unfortunately the rosey red fruits are still rock hard, so I can't pick them yet

Basil plants growing as companion plants have fared well in the scorching heat.
This Thai basil plant had been attracting Eastern Rosellas earlier in the week before the temperatures got higher, at least cockatoos aren't attracted to basil like they are to sunflowers

Today's 41 C temperature was hard on the garden yet the increase of winds day and night since spring began has been the biggest battle in keeping moisture in plants & soils, even after a good downpour of rain the winds haven't been kind, and summer has just begun 🫣

Now my pepper plants are big enough to take away bird netting, I'm hoping the combination of herbs and mulch gets the plants through what already is testing weather
Different basils to deter pests (except fruit fly) & mulch to keep moisture in the soils
Serrano plant going well

So far so good for the summer garden using herbs as pest control
Cinnamon,Thai & common Basil, coriander, pyrethrum with melons, early marigolds to keep nematodes away from watermelon, shallots & eventually chilli
The mulch is much needed as winds & heat are constant

Lots of rhubarb picked before the heat of the day arrived, giving younger rhubarb time to grow before summer's temperatures burn the foliage, hopefully sugarcane mulch helps with water retention

My first successful overwintering of a Capsicum chinense plant (Chocolate Bih Jolokia)has taken to the spring heat with new foliage, hopefully the transplant goes well as temperatures rise to 35C/95F

Fruit trees in flower, unfortunately no bees anywhere for the second spring in a row
The varroa mite is having a terrible affect on the honey bee population
