I'm a dyed in the wool Trekkie, but “Star Trek: Section 31” was unwatchable; I abandoned about ½ way through. Lazy tropes and horrific writing. Even Michelle Yeoh couldn't salvage this one. And the opening title sequence featured SFX that felt like it was from an amateur fan film, not a real studio.

While we’re safe (right in the middle of three evacuation zones), my heart goes out to those directly affected by LA fires. See lacounty.gov/emergency/ for map of evacuation zones, etc.

I finally gave up on Threads: It kept on giving me notifications about unrelated accounts, regardless of my notification settings. I completely understand that they want to build a network, but that’s not the way to do it. I have uninstalled it.

I’ve noticed numerous reviews comparing Sony’s new 28-70 f/2 lens to Canon’s. I’d be more interested in practical comparison b/w Sony’s 28-70 f/2 with their 24-70 f/2.8 Mk II lens (e.g., image quality, size/weight comparisons, etc.).

I get the “The Picture of Dorian Gray” vibe of “The Substance”, but it doesn’t work: Sure, she willingly signed up (and later was intoxicated by her celebrity/vanity). But it only works if you ignore the need to satisfy the commercial demands of the male gaze. She is as much victim as monster.

I’m abandoning Hulu+Live TV: The AppleTV app has usability design flaws and it freezes & crashes. I was giving it the benefit of the doubt for a while, but it’s been over a year now and there’s been no progress.

I’m trying out YouTubeTV. Their AppleTV app is *so* much more promising.

A screen grab from an old, but critically acclaimed movie: Pawns on the back rank? Really?!

We were watching “The Rainmaker” (1997) and paused at this scene, because it’s an obvious composite of two separate clips: Virginia Madsen is in focus, as is Danny Glover, but the judge’s bench b/w them is not. Looking closely, you can see some fuzzy vertical transition. I never noticed this before…

As a Gunner, I am conflicted re Tottenham-Man City match on May 14th. Sure, City loss would give us legit title shot, but the Spurs?! Probably academic, as City’s going to crush them, but, still… #sophieschoice

Is it just me, or did my M1 iPad Pro just suddenly become a little less responsive, just as the M4 model was released? It used to be super responsive to swipe gestures on the home screen, but it’s suddenly become a little less so. Is it my iPad? Or is it me?

The opening scene of _Barbie_ is brilliant. How better to drive home the movie’s thesis than to launch it with a scene that provokes so much mansplaining…

I created TruthSocial account when it launched, just to watch the dumpster fire. Just deleted my account. App removed. www.ionos.com/digitalguide...

I won’t be able to get to the path of totality for this coming solar eclipse. But I’ve cleared my calendar for August 12, 2045.

I’m kind of surprised that Sony consumer cameras haven’t shifted to 5-6K capture modes so we can get good 4K footage post Catalyst cropping.
