People always tell me that I should have more support.

That if my level of function was really “that bad” I would have help.

Please believe me when I tell you help doesn’t magically appear when you become disabled.

Unless you’re rich or have family support, you’re on your own.

Update - I have more feelings now:

Rage. Obvs

Tired. Righteous anger is exhausting

Hurt. Exhaustion exacerbates pain

Outraged. How TF could anyone do this alone?! I’ve only gotten this far with extensive help

Determined. Consulting lawyers and more

Annoyed. It shouldn’t be this hard.
All i feel is rage.

I want the person that decided this to live in my shoes for just a few hours.

Let them endure everything this nightmare entails.

It wouldn’t just change their mind, it would drive them crazy.

Yes, I will appeal. Fuck this.

It’s been almost a month since I published a Disabled Ginger article.

My flare took my ability to write

The negative self talk crept in. I’m lazy. A failure. I should play through the pain.

This is internalized ableism. We are not lazy for resting.

There’s no prize for setting back your baseline

Literally my favorite movie, ever, and I love that it’s playing out in real time.

*Two guys looking at posters of the dictator’s face, one red and one blue*

Guy 1: “I think I’m going to vote Blue.”

Guy 2: “Vote for whoever you want - it’s a free dictatorship.”

I had a flare up yesterday that caused intense pain and fatigue.

I slept about 21 hours but got almost no rest. I was only awake for little bits to eat and take meds. I had no capacity and no bandwidth.

I feel “better” today, but I still hurt and am still tired.

It never ends and is always cruel.
“I’m sorry you’re sick but get over it, it’s been five years”.

This is the literal opposite of an apology, and a perfect example of how people can’t understand chronic illness.

We can’t simply “get over it”.

It doesn’t matter how many years it’s been.

It’s always with us. Cruel & unrelenting.

Please make your resistance efforts accessible!

It’s important to commit to not leaving disabled people behind.

We can bring a lot to the fight, but it starts with a commitment to inclusion.

That includes wearing masks so you can keep yourselves (and us!) healthy!

This is just classic, age-old ableist eugenics. It’s the exact same shit sold to us during the pandemic. “Don’t worry, it’s only the already disabled and chronically ill that are suffering and dying.” It’s all the same playbook. “Nothing to see here. Nobody with worth to worry about.”
I’m kind of speechless with this one. I can’t imagine the kind of person who continues to make the argument that it doesn’t count as real starvation if the kids were already sick.

Instead of telling a disabled person what they should or shouldn’t be able to do… ask them how you could help them accomplish what they need.

Listen to their struggles. Approach the situation with compassion.

Offer genuine support.

That’s the best way to be an ally.

Disability is not a vacation.

It’s not like that time you took a week off sick from work.

It’s a 24/7 job. It’s unrelenting pain, fatigue and suffering.

It’s dealing with a medical system that ignores and gaslights you, a society that views you as expendable & people who resent you for existing

Learning to rest is crucial when you’re chronically ill.

If you try and play through the pain, you can permanently set back your baseline.

Make sure you remember to rest your brain and your body.

That crushing brain fog that feels like scrambled eggs in your head?

That’s a warning sign to rest

Disability justice is a very hard thing to advocate for

Disability will happen to almost everyone, so it’s in their best interest to help

But people are terrified of disability & desperate to believe they’ll be the exception

So they treat us appallingly. They don’t “get it” until it’s their turn

In today’s episode of “🚩 jobs” I present this “COO/Integrator” ad

They basically say up front “we suck at what we’re doing and need you to fix it”

Their ideal candidate is “not seeking work life balance” with an 80+ hour workweek likely

$80-$130k salary is likely total or on target earnings
