Pratchett, his whole bibliography, is most of the reason I am the person I am.

Specifically the first book of his I read was The Fifth Elephant, a weird place to start but still one of my favorites.

Still haven’t read The Shepherd’s Crown, don’t know if I’ll ever be ready.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Extremely low stakes debate topic:

What do you figure is the English word with the worst “what it means” to “how it sounds” ratio?

Like, I borderline refuse to say “demonstrably” right because “demonstrate-ably” is what it means while “de-MONSTER-bly” sounds like a children’s monster movie title.

I have… way more thoughts about the Wednesday show than is probably healthy. Like it was fun, but idk if I’ve ever seen a piece of media jumble its ideas so powerfully before.

The inevitable has happened, I booted up Silksong and I’ve finally hit a point where the time investment to get good enough to play it just doesn’t really grab me anymore

I lived off Soulslikes through my 20s. But I’ve got other stuff going on now I want to do more. End of an era. Skong on for me 🫡

Exasperatingly frequently necessary reminder that the weaponization of ableism and fatphobia and homophobia and transphobia against your political enemies still works to NORMALIZE those things, thus SYSTEMICALLY HARMING your supposed allies.

I try to maintain empathy and connection for humans as a whole, but the illusion that the world "just works"--that the assumptions of past generations are true, that the rules of your teachers are sacred, that change is a risk rather than a necessity--is poisonous, and creates poisonous people.

File this under “evidence that democrats can’t get attention for doing wild shit because everyone expects that they will make sense and follow rules but every dumbass thing Donald Trump says is the whole news for 2 weeks.”
I don’t understand what Biden et al are doing with the ERA, do they think people are not going to notice that it isn’t actually in place?

Listen, it is obviously *someone’s* aesthetic or it wouldn’t be the no. 1 source of plastic miniatures in the world… but I have literally never seen a space marine that looked cool.

The EC reveal felt like a fever dream (bad). This? This is your long awaited Slaanesh range???

How does it feel to transcend?
How does it feel when the power is spent, and you change back?

Weirdly prolific in DnD/Tabletop RPG spaces I’ve found. “Oh I’d never use it for a published work but I like generating monsters for my home table.” Don’t. I promise your players will enjoy your crudely drawn stick beastie more than AI slop anyways, plus it doesn’t kill the planet.
waaaaay too many people in the middle imo

My friend and cohost expressed an interest in my Yndrasta so I painted her one as a Christmas present! (In a color scheme more in line with her vibes 🔥)

Hey fun fact, Triangle Agency kicks ass.

Finally pulled the trigger on picking up a copy yesterday and not only am I extremely excited to run it with my table I’m also having a blast just reading the rules. Huge props to everyone on the team, haven’t laughed this hard in a while.

At risk of repeating myself: The Luddites weren’t against technology. They were against getting put out of work by a technology that did a version of their job faster but worse, in the service of increasing profits for their bosses.

I suspect, as Hank did, that this’ll be an unpopular position; but greed did not build most of the systems behind climate change, care for eachother did.

But that doesn’t mean the solution is less caring. And depopulation rhetoric is always a tool for immense harm directed at the most vulnerable.
We probably don’t need to have this conversation but, “the biggest reason humans have such a large impact on the environment is that we want to provide a high standard of living for a very large population of people” is very different from “I want human population to crash.”

5e was the second, but the first was honest-to-god Burning Wheel (which probably explains a lot about me as a player and GM).

5e is my beer and pretzels *throw something together* game still since most of my group is most familiar with it and while it’s hard to find a BW group I still love it.
Hey #ttrpg folks! A couple quick poll-like questions for you:

- What were the first two ttrpgs you played?
- Do you remember either of these games fondly? Do you still play them? Have you outgrown them?

Feel free to reply here or quote post to spread the poll!

Do yourself a favor and play “We Know The Devil.” It’s on sale on Steam and Itch right now and it’s phenomenal. It captures something, idk, powerful about the queer experience (especially the queer youth experience.)

Plus I’m a sucker for a near-real horror fantasy setting.

If I had to guess, I’d say my most controversial pop culture opinion is that Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool is a bad adaptation.

The first movie was closest and by &Wolverine Deadpool was just Ryan Reynolds. DP is more than just Spider-man + sex jokes.
