Bit of a bust unfortunately. Had a couple from Manchester stood next to me and would not shut up - only to move to another location with the exact same thing! Chat, chat, chat until they played “Chaise Longue”!
Wet Leg - in future - play that first!!

Station To Station next - the Thin White Duke throwing darts in lovers' eyes…
(@modernminstrel.bsky.social noticed last week I bypassed “Pin Ups”! Completely forgot about it - but it’s a covers album anyway!)

It opened with me laughing as John Davidson shouted “F**k the Queen” when entering Holyrood Palace to accept his MBE - it ended with me bawling my eyes out. It was funny, moving and profound
Stop Crying Your Heart Out played in the closing credits. Alright Oasis 😢

16. Björk - Human Behaviour
Björk will always be credited as one of the first artists to introduce my ears to the joys of electronic music - of which I’m eternally grateful! All started with this gem from her “Debut” album - an observation of humans as seen through the eyes of an animal

There’s nothing like sex, hedonism, sacrilege, danger and violence on a Friday night! Wrapped up in twee vocals and gorgeous, ethereal guitars! It’s the cute one’s you have to watch!!

Here to see The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - their t-shirts are £20. Which warrants conversations about the reasonable price of band tees!

After the week I’ve had, I’m having this!
Plus I need the insulation - heading out later and this rain has not let up!

17. Portishead - Sour Times
NME described “Dummy” as the soundtrack for a 50s B&W ghost story set in Soho. Sounds inviting, but it took seeing them on The White Room performing this - with Beth’s cries that NOBODY LOVES ME LIKE YOU - that I bought the album and have been a fan ever since

18. Deee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart
Dig!
Mood enhancement of the entirety legal kind! A sampletastic, grin inducing melting pot of 70s funk and 90s house - cruelly denied its deserved place at No.1 - but we are still dancing to it and some of the best songs have never made the summit

In the list of one of THE best gigs I’ve ever been to!
Super Furries are always great live - this was a tour in support of their “Guerrrilla” album (which I think remains their best album to date!).

19. Super Furry Animals - Ice Hockey Hair
The song was so named following a conversation with a Swedish football player who said that having ice hockey hair (i.e. a mullet) was really unfashionable in Sweden! Supposedly it was originally called “The Naff Song” - nothing naff about this!

20. Mogwai - Like Herod
There is no greater live thrill than seeing Mogwai play “Like Herod”. It’s the moment when it goes quiet - you know it’s going to kick back in - the band keeping that tension going - then suddenly - bang! That wall of guitars! Like watching a horror film 😂

21. The Boo Radleys - Lazarus
Why Lazarus? It’s that spacey intro that keeps building until an organ roll ushers in the horns and suddenly all the music in the world is happening at once - then they cut the switch for an acoustic guitar, slightly distorted vocals and those harmonies.

Being a fan of Guillermo del Toro since seeing Pan’s Labyrinth - I knew this would be an interesting film.
Yes - it’s big and beautiful (and a couple of scares!) - but at its heart I thought it was melancholic and I really enjoyed it. But I already knew I would!
