RIP Norman Gifford, Worcestershire, Warwickshire & England slow left arm spinner who took 2,068 first class wickets at 23.56. He played 15 Test matches taking 33 wickets at 31.09. He also played two ODI’s taking 4 wickets at 12.50 as well as getting 443 ListA victims at 26.01. #cricketcounts

This is a record which was awarded 200 years later. For decades, reference works listed Eastern Province v Border 1946-47 - then revisions to which early matches should be considered FC added Oldfield v MCC. So although the record was held by a match in 1794, it has only recently been recognised.

Pakistan Television defend a target of 40, dismissing Sui Northern Gas Pipelines for just 37 to beat a 232-year-old record set when Oldfield skittled MCC for 34 chasing 41 at the old Lord's in 1794.

In amongst the excitement from Pakistan, there's been an unusual feat at the Under 19 World Cup - Viran Chamuditha (192) outscored Japan by himself even though they batted out their overs. Unsurprisingly, one player outscoring a whole team usually only happens when they're bowled out cheaply.

I refer you to my post yesterday about India being a completely unsuitable host for international cricket. You'd hope that the ECB would take their players being racially profiled as a reason to stand up to India at the ICC. But you'd hope wrongly, because they won't.
