Hearing ✨ the ✨ Terry Gross say that she doesn’t like a book that’s 500 pages, and instead thinks that 300 is plenty sufficient…. Feels so validating.

You may find this interesting #langchat and #edusky.

I tried to deconstruct what I consider to be realistic and attainable micro-practices (before, during, and after class) of successful students in my classes. Intention is to be clear regarding expectations and encourage successful habits. 1/3

Excited that the March NECTFL Review issue features a peer-reviewed article I co-authored with Nancy Zimmerman of @kutztownu.bsky.social on the @psmla.bsky.social Peer Mentoring Program and its impact on language teacher growth and sustainability! #langchat

“Thirty percent of Americans read at a level that you would expect from a 10-year-old child. … It is actually hard to imagine — that every third person you meet on the street has difficulties reading even simple things.”

Oof. 🤦‍♂️

Whenever my brain gets all whipped up, I try to center myself on my core beliefs and principles. So, I wrote a blog post about what I see as the core aspects of teaching a language for proficiency. I'd be curious what your reactions to this might be...! ❤️🌈

Don’t worry, everyone. Linda McMahon was a French major last time she was in school… in 1969. Surely nothing has changed since then and we can count on her advocacy and support for multilingualism and global perspectives in our schools!

Many thanks for @marishawkins.bsky.social for making sure that I had my name badge for my session!! 😬🫣
Starting off #nectfl25 with @richmadel.bsky.social ! Some ideas- even if we are not using the textbook- it still lingers. People write a recipe, you talk about your daily routine etc.

Spoiler alert: No. No you wouldn’t have.

This table from Manning’s (2021, p. 27) dissertation - while in the context of Latin methodology - does a great job of showing some of the characteristic and tangible differences/similarities among common teaching approaches for world languages generally. #langchat #educhat

I love this! A real-world language function for even novice proficiency. #langchat
Yess!! I’ve used writing alt text as an activity with my world language students when teaching how to describe things. It gives a real world context for their learning and teaches the importance (and fun!) of creating something that is accessible.

#langchat
Adding alt text to images is extremely important. At first I did it because I felt obligated, but now I'm seeing it as a fun descriptive writing activity. How can I describe this image so that others can imagine it?

I'm thinking of so many ways this could be used in the classroom.

Ok, #edusky. How many students absent in a class does it take before you to scrap a lesson and wait for more students present? Is it a magic number? Is it a ratio? Interested to hear your approach…
