If you missed the first of this series, start with Part One here! After two relaxing nights at Pasadena's Saga Motor Hotel, it was time to say farewell and start our trek back east. We started Wednesday off right with breakfast at Andy's Coffee Shop, a no-frills diner less than a mile from the Saga. It's been there since 1960 and has its fair share of regulars, including our friend Ian Bowen. We had another great visit before we parted ways - him to the Santa Monica Pier and us to Barstow.

If you missed Part One of this travelogue, check it out here. Although Samantha and I had a restful night at the Wigwam Motel in San Bernardino on Sunday, November 9th, our Central Time Brains woke us up rather early. That's not a complaint, though, because that's more time to explore...and take advantage of unexpected opportunities! While we were getting up and around on Monday morning, I received a message from my friend Scott Piotrowski of the California Historic Route 66 Association asking if I was going to a mural ribbon cutting in Pasadena that morning.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the relighting of the neon sign at Road Runner's Retreat in Chambless, California! The business is long gone but this desert icon will remind Route 66 travelers of the area's history.

In 1958, teacher Clara Luper led a sit-in at the Katz Drug Store in downtown Oklahoma City. Now a bronze monument stands where that drugstore was.

One of the seats at the counter is empty, inviting people to join in and reflect on the courage and determination it took to stand up by sitting down.

Great job, Afton! Local artist Jessica Stout created this vibrant mural featuring the town's history. I wore my DX jacket in honor of my late friend Laurel Kane; she inspired me to get more involved a decade ago now. The town came together to raise funds to make this artwork a reality. #Route66

Yesterday was a Route 66 day! Attended the opening of The Caldwell Collection at Mustang Field vintage aircraft museum in El Reno (paired with a great burger at Jobe's), checked in at Yukon's Czech festival, then visited with John Hargrove in Arcadia, Oklahoma. The road is never boring!
