A pumpkin carved with a human shaped opening, and then the guy from The Enigma of Amigara Fault by Junji Ito has been cut out with a text bubble saying “it was made for me!” And attacked to the pumpkin so it recreates the scene from the manga where the guy is climbing into the human shaped hole in a cliff side except now it’s a human shaped hole in a pumpkin.

Cost of labour is the big unsung one here. People deserve to get paid to work!! Economies of scale for published work simply allow for the creator to be paid AND the book to be cheap in a way that is not possible when doing it all yourself

for self published stuff where you're just printing it yourself and selling at artist alley or whatnot, the rule of thumb is (at least) 3x what it costs to print one unit. that covers printing costs, cost of labor, and then also nets you a very small profit
