Macon Bolling Allen, was admitted to the Maine bar decades earlier as the nation’s first Black lawyer. His picture hung at City Hall for several years. Historians say it was the only known image of him to have ever existed.
America’s first Black lawyer started in Maine. His only known portrait has been missing for decades.
Macon Bolling Allen went on to become the nation's first African American judge and was a partner at the first Black-led firm in South Carolina.

Just highlighting here that the Maine USDA staff are NOT the folks making decisions to withhold payments. These folks are hard working #CivilServants who have dedicated their careers to helping our small businesses and farmers. This is coming from the top.

They are our neighbors.
Our nation's federal employees are more than just numbers on a spreadsheet.

They make sure we have clean water.

They protect us from financial fraud.

They provide healthcare to our communities.

They make our government actually work for people.

Do not forget this.

Vianey shared this video of farm workers pruning in the orchards of Hanford CA. He shares he doesnt understand why so many don’t appreciate the hard work and sacrifice of farm workers. Man or woman, they only want to work in peace and provide for their families. #WeFeedYou

Here's what I can tell you after leading a team of federal employees for 3+ years: 🧵
1.) Those "federal employees"? They care - a lot. The community you live in? That's their community too. Where their kids and grandkids go to school.

I just delivered the final turkey order of our 10th pasture season. We work hard here at the farm and we have health care, access to clean bathrooms, a warm home, and earned EQUITY because we own this land. When our turkey is on your table Thursday, remember Esteban. He has earned these things too.
Esteban spent hours trudging through muddy, wet fields cutting pumpkin vines. Despite the exhausting work and difficult conditions workers typically earn minimum wage. This #Thanksgiving remember the hard work behind the pumpkin pie on your table. #WeFeedYou

All I want for my birthday is a just and equitable food system.
P.S. it comes in every color, and I already know it fits.
Gallo of Sonoma workers are hard at work getting the vineyard ready for next year's crop. They appreciate their union contract which ensures they have the safety gear they need including gloves, safety goggles and more. #WeFeedYou

Oooh Lord,
If we can please just have nice things, I promise to only use Bluesky for the forces of good and not evil, and to not spend too much time binge scrolling and laughing at all the clever, snarky comments and adorable dog pictures.
Amen 😉
