I would love to live on an ice-peak , this heat is giving me such a hard time.

I get why most events are held around summer but the double whammy of trying to do more and battling heat exacerbated health conditions is a monster task

I can't believe how fast #UKIO has appeared again!
This year I've managed to get a couple of posters approved (plus helped with a few more!).

We've already seen how hard PIP is to get for many people. We have already seen people dying because they were unjustly denied it, or because it has been delayed. PIP is an essential lifeline for many. Proposing to cut it is a gross mistake, which needs scrapping.

My dad lives in Cyprus.
Earlier this year, I took the trip to go and visit him. I have to go in winter-spring because after that it is too hot for me and I faint.
Dad hired a mobility scooter for me, and we made sure to only plan for low energy activities

It's getting increasingly difficult to deal with stories about disabled people being "lazy, scrounging, benefit frauds"
I had to go to magistrates before I was awarded PIP. It is not the easy way to cash in, and it is not extra fun money. It doesn't even cover what I spend for my conditions.

The work of healthcare scientists underpins 80% of diagnoses and #HCS2week2025 is a chance to thank them!

The little boy-racer car I've had for 12 years has finally bit the dust.
That said, my new car has a boot that opens like a door and could fit my wheels+ a big suitcase!?
The future is now

Second family funeral of the year. It has gone as well as could be expected.
Feeling like I can now step out of the shadows left by the end of 2024 properly and move forward into 2025. Though perhaps with a few days grace...

One of my partners got me a wonderful gift, an MRI-safe walking stick (tested in their sister's radiology unit for extra assurance). Very happy that I can now go in all areas for work ♿💖

Christmas has been a time of loss for many years in my family, and this year is no exception. Still comforting to be with family all the same.

My maternal grandad died yesterday morning.

He held great love for music and creativity alongside science. Kindling my curiosity with his own passion for learning.

He took on all my eccentricities with his full support and helped me to believe that I could do big things.

I will miss him greatly

A lot more work needs to be done for making MRI units accessible, as well as making sure patients and visitors understand the dangers.

Walking sticks are also not usually MRI safe. Even wooden ones can have a hidden metal core!
Periodic reminder that the ‘M’ in MRI stands for ‘magnetic’ (AF) and that uncontrolled areas and unscreened objects represent grave risks to patients and workers, alike.

#disabled folks in the UK, what would you want a radiographer (the person doing your scan or pictures for the doctor) to know?

I'm doing a guest seminar on "caring for disabled patients" for radiography students just starting their journey. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated 💖

While I'm feeling very *disabled* by my conditions today, it feels like a good time to plug the charity I help to run, Leeds Paraclimbing Club. We help to make climbing accessible for all, improving the physical health and social wellbeing for disabled people.

Every so often it feels like my body just mutinies against me entirely and I spend several days sleeping. Folks don't tend to understand just how tiring it is to live as a disabled person. No amount of sleep feels restful.
