“Writing itself is a difficult and exacting process, and nothing I know this side of sunbathing in a cyclotron can break a human being as quickly and thoroughly.”

The December Comfort Watches 2025, Day Twenty: A Fish Called Wanda
I have thought a number of films have been riotously funny, but only A Fish Called Wanda made me laugh so hard that I was in very real danger of pissing myself right there in the movie theater. It …

First award for my book, "Tales of the Beechy Hollow Great Outdoors Club."
A Literary Titan Gold would have been nice, but this is probably more motivating—there's always the next book.
And the badge looks cool on my cover. 😎

Is revision always necessary? Not for Jim Harrison:

"I wrote Legends of the Fall in nine days and when I re-read it, I only had to change one word. There was no revision process. None. I had thought so much about the character that writing the book was like taking dictation."

My first experience dealing with Amazon KDP has mostly been positive. I'm thankful for the unlimited edits. I've uploaded my manuscript several times, each time thinking it was the "final" version.

Weird that they allow pre-orders for the ebook, but no reviews before publication.

Yes, editing can be painful.
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote to his friend, Maxwell Perkins, that he cut 18,000 words from his book during editing. The book was "The Great Gatsby."

One "good" thing about my dog's UTI -- she's been getting me up at 4:30 a.m. every morning the last few days. So, I've finally joined the 5 a.m. writer's club.

(She's on medicine and getting better.)

"You want to cultivate a clear blank—a mind that is open, vulnerable, and plain. Empty, basically, of thought. This is a writing mind. When you are empty, you are able to focus."

Bonnie Friedman:
A young painter comes to Michelangelo and says, 'I've seen your religious paintings. Teach me to depict the human soul.'
'Fine,' he says. 'Learn to paint a human knuckle. Observe it closely...study its shifts of color. You paint a soul only by painting a knuckle.'

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the release of "Jaws." We streamed the movie last night, and it had a special introduction by Spielberg.
After 50 years, it's still one of the finest examples of pure cinema.
