Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

I had a very frustrating time with AVATAR: FIRE & ASH. Yeah, its finale feels shot-for-shot repetitive and leads basically nowhere new. But the first two hours? Man! The action, the dilemmas, and all the brainy concepts introduced are phenomenal.

I really believe the industry needs to adapt and not with AI but with its people. They need to bring artists and crews in house, pay everyone well, take risks and make the creators part of the story and marketing. They need to partner with artists to survive. Accept a smaller industry.

All of Rian Johnson's movies are about the art of storytelling, but by exploring how it helps both faith and religion (two very different things), WAKE UP DEAD MAN feels like his most personal entry yet. This Benoit Blanc mystery is also the most creative and intricate of the three. I loved it! 🤍
