Figured I'd take the chance to write up a (warning: long) blog post highlighting some of the work I'm particularly proud of over the years for AUKN. I'm surprised I found the energy after being at work, but I was feeling inspired today I guess.
A Ten Year Review: AUKN Edition
As I write this on October 23rd 2025, it has been ten years since my first AnimeUKNews review was published. Which I think makes for the perfect opportunity to look back on some of the things I&#82…

First impressions of Miyano’s new album are largely how has he not had a collection released in so long that Quiet Explosion and Sing a Song Together ended up here. There’s definitely a noticeable difference in direction for the songs written prior to Face and those for this album.

Probably going to take it easy this week and catch up with stuff I missed over the weekend. I don’t know if I want to know how many YouTube videos I need to watch to catch up… nor anime… I did at least watch some of my J-dramas while away and I’ve only missed yesterday’s Yoasobi at least. ^^;

Well that sure is a pile of stuff to come home to 🤣

I’ve read like half of Bookstore Girls now and at first I figured it was going to be a lot of relationship drama since it sets up that way, actually the book lover / book sellers aspect kicked in not long after and has been a very engrossing read.

I finished the book I brought on the trip up to Edinburgh so that justifies me buying several more to take home, right? Also cool thing, all written by female authors which was not intentional on my part but a nice coincidence. (None of these were the book I went looking for tho…)

I bought a new model kit while out today, rip my several unbuilt ones. Couldn’t see a Lelouch one to match tho. Also I have to use glue in places, which I have never done before so potential uh oh.

Love Ouji Suzuka as an actor, was not a good choice as a seiyu for Cha0’s lead

Skipped Gundam in favour of a nice dinner at Bread Meats Bread. Pudding especially was very nice (sticky toffee pudding)

A miracle happened and I actually read the book I packed last minute. But I regret not picking something thicker since we still have another hour and a bit to go

Tokyo Aliens Volume 9 Review

Akira has been kidnapped and is set to be auctioned off to the highest bidder! With no idea where he is, Sho is left with no choice but to visit informants Yuen and Meimei who can hopefully point the AMO in the direction of our protagonist.

Argh I just tipped a full bottle of water all over me, my desk and my chair. I hadn’t even had a drink of it yet and I’d literally just used all the ice cubes for it. Luckily nothing damaged, but my chair is too wet to sit in for now and I had to change bottoms… I’d just put these on 20 minutes ago.

I spontaneously bought the new issue of Jump GIGA a couple of weeks ago, which is now finally in the UK! Now will it arrive tomorrow or just after we go to SLA...

So right is almost certainly Kenjiro Tsuda, but I wonder who the left is supposed to be (Mamo? Is that just my bias? 😅). From volume 1 of Fired? But I Maintain All the Software! (Which was surprisingly funny!).

Every time someone suggests using chatGPT to help them or someone else with their language questions I get so annoyed by the prospect of them never learning anything because they’re just fed inaccurate information. It’s one thing if someone bothers to verify the answer, but absolutely no one is.

Gachiakuta and Tougen Anki are probably the shows I flip flop on liking or not the most this season. I like both sets of characters, but sometimes the darkness of their stories is just too much I think.

I carved out the two hours to listen to Mamoru Miyano’s All Night Nippon 0 show. It was really great, a different atmosphere to his own show but still familiar and a lot of fun. You could tell how excited and honoured he was to do it. I hope they’ll let him host again in the future!

People who have ditched Grammarly, what’re we using instead? Free tier preferable, do not need bells and whistles just wanna know I have commas in the right place and some general spellcheck oversight. The AI crap I definitely don’t want.

I’m looking forward to the break next week, but I need to catch up with my dramas first… Since I use TVer episodes are removed from streaming a week after broadcast, which is fine but I don’t want that happening while I’m away so I ideally need to be caught up. <- currently half a week behind

Gacha Lvl9999 anime has done nothing to make me want to go back to the source material, but I do appreciate the talent of the team working on this adaptation and they have done a fantastic job with elevating it. Also nice hearing Okamoto cast as a villain again, been awhile and he plays those well!

This will only get worse before it gets better and I hope readers won’t just settle for it. Don’t buy the AI slop, don’t read it, don’t support it. if you really are too impatient to wait for translations then please just consider learning the language. Do not turn to AI.
As machine translation tools under the banner of AI become increasingly accessible and easy to use, the light novel landscape is at a crossroads. Do light novel publishers compromise their product for more speed, and if so, by how much?
