Typing THE END on a first draft is like coming to after a week long bender — you’re not entirely sure what you’ve done, but there’s definitely gonna be some cleaning up to do.

Tried to explain to a friend why I can’t visit her in the US as planned. Came out like “I can’t sleep over at your house because your Dad is a bad man.”

Now that the tariffs are paused and my outrage meter has gone back to a mere 95% I can get back to seriously considering bangs.

If the net effect of all that tariff nonsense is that we felt a flicker of patriotism and protectiveness over a culture we’d forgotten we had, fact checked which ketchup to buy in future, and delighted again, if just momentarily, in calling people Hosers… then I think we kinda won that one, bud. 🇨🇦

Sisu.... the beating heart that will never be stopped.
The Finnish people brought this fighting spirit to northern Canada. My family grew up with their stories.
That's how our nation was built - the coming together of fierce frontier survivors.
So just try us Trump.
Seriously.

My mummu survived the Winter War and left everything behind when Russia annexed the land our family farm stood on. She taught me how to be strong and how to be happy with very little. She gave me the greatest gift of all....Sisu. We will persevere. #CanadaStrong #WeWontBackDown #Sisu
My Mom is a miner's daughter. Her whole family fought Nazis.
She was walking through the snow with her walker when a woman asked her,"Will we survive Trump?"
"Of course we will," Mom replied. "I don't need asparagus. I'll eat root vegetables. We've done it before."
That's Canada.

Oh, to be French; to mutter “putain” without feeling unfeminist; to smoke unfettered by health concerns; to throw down at the slightest hint of a governmental fuckery. This is my dream.

The "first they came..." poem gets quoted and quoted and quoted and quoted and you know what, we do in fact know who they're coming for first, right now, and that is trans people, and the answer needs to be "absolutely the fuck not, you motherfuckers," full stop.

Good news at last! The world is burning and everything is shit, but according to the algorithms all I *really* need to worry about is my disgusting, perimenopausal face. Phew. I feel much more centred now.

If you’ve never been to the lickbo, you can’t call yourself a real Ontarian. I stand by this statement.

Sigh. Another day in the mines. (If the mines were relentlessly beige, open plan, industrial carpeted and populated with scary suit people)

If Viszlas ran things, they’d abolish polar vortexes. Because you can, right, just say something doesn’t exist anymore, release an order about it and poof, gone-zies!

Up here over the imaginary border, our premiere threatens something nobody is particularly worried about. The Canadian politics version of “why, I oughta….”

Blue Monday, indeed. Seems a fitting day to move over to bluesky. Today’s agenda: ignore US shitshow, listen to New Order instead.
