I've always seen it as mutual corruption. Marazhai's influence on Yrliet is easy to understand as such, but given Commoragh's inverted values, whatever evolution Yrliet can give Marazhai is also fucking him up for his own culture. Tied endings are Corsairs or Harlequins -> they leave their culture
