Apropos Elkie Brooks.

Saw her in the early 70s at Manchester University Student Union in a band called Vinegar Joe. The male singer was Robert Palmer (addicted to love).

Funny old world.

Whatever Executive Order the Mango Mussolini was signing today, it reminded me of this. When I saw it 50 years ago, I thought it was a great comedy.
Turns out it was a documentary.

The time has come. EVERYONE who follows me, please repost, share and spread this fundraiser to provide legal defense for whistleblowers in America, including my friend Miles Taylor, who Trump has ordered to be investigated for treason, for the “crime” of criticizing him. Please donate if you can. 🧵

Apropos the cricket.

Man walks into ground, sits down, turns to neighbour and asks who's winning?
Answer: don't know, come back Tuesday.
What a mad game. And only one the English could have invented.

Just watched Fall of the Roman Empire. A 3 hour spectacular epic mess, but does show Stephen Boyd berating the Senate for supporting a maniac. It concludes by stating that Empires are destroyed not from without, but within. And to be fair to Commodus, at no point does he clear off and play golf.

This just seems so painfully obvious. Political honesty may be difficult. The rightwing media may scream and shout. But would that really be worse than being braver, taking a few short-term hits but making life genuinely better for us all?

Re yr Aligot post sounds wonderful. However, if my Dad was here, he would say

I'll have to take my hat & coat off because it'll take some shifting.

Should you find yourself in Montmartre, give my regards to Chez Camille. Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, it's one of the best

Extraordinary to watch this party's newfound sense of purpose and momentum. Trump is destroying the US, but he is a very significant electoral asset to liberals around the world.

Beautiful thread on one person's journey to #bobdylan. Mine was like a religious awakening. I was 17, in LA—after HSC—omw to New Orleans & staying with some ppl. Needed music for the road & went through their LPs. Saw Greatest Hits & played it & I suddenly understood the meaning & potential of life.
When I was a teenager in the early 90s, a school friend with similar taste in music suggested that I might like Bob Dylan.

I’d seen that name in my older brother’s record collection so that evening I went home and listened to Before the Flood. 🧵

Apropos of nothing, watching Twixmas TV in the UK and a docu. on Dame Maggie Smith.

Great actor

lots of black and white TV
interviews from the 60/70s.

She smoked like a chimney.

As an ex-smoker, it felt quite nostalgic. If Professor Chris Whitty said it was OK, I'd be in like Flynn.

Dear Lord John Crace.

Today's politics sketch reminds me of an old 70's (?) Sitcom based on a firm of undertakers.
The only funny line was 'once your dead in this country, you're laughing'.

And presumably we'll all be hunk dory.

If you're not a Bob Dylan disciple ignore this.

But..

Does anyone (probably in the US) know what songs are on the Anthology 2 book of piano/guitar music.
Amazon not very helpful.

Niche request, apologies.

Hi there, please think of this as constructive criticism, but I scroll through your re posts as they irritatingly clog up my time line. Just do the one. If I'm interested, I'll research the rest.

My one constructive criticism on BlueSky, as a community: we need to “like” less and “retweet” more. In the absence of an algorithm, that’s the way we find each other and reward good content.
