Life’s too short for boring vinyl.
Well, folks, it seems my record collecting days are done for 2025. Wanna see how it shook out?

Artist: Flight of the Conchords
Album: S/T (Season One)
Bought: Xmas gift from my wife
Notes: 2008 pressing

What a great show but I can’t for the life of me figure out why “Mermaid” is not on this album.

Artist: Various
Album: The Bob’s Burgers Music Album
Bought: Xmas gift from my wife
Notes: Bonus (white) 7” with the best songs
December 25, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Artist: @thekilograms.bsky.social
Album: Strike A Match
Bought: Bandcamp
Notes: 25/100//Clear w/ red & yellow splatter//YES, it’s got a functional strike strip

RIP, Kilograms. Thank you for the great music. You will be missed.
December 24, 2025 at 8:25 PM
Artist: Linkin Park
Album: Hybrid Theory
Bought: Collector’s Choice
Notes: 1276/3000/Because Sound Matters one-step pressing

I know Collector’s Choice isn’t a real record shop BUT I’m not willing to spend one HUNDRED dollars on one record - even if it sounds great. Are you serious? Get fucked, bro.

Artist “The Ataris”
Album: Hang Your Head in Hope
Bought: Discogs

Kris has always been best behind an acoustic and this album’s good, but the older I get, the more this “nice guy” punk makes me cringe a little.

I can feel it. This… itch. It claws at me. Makes me sweat and fidget. I check my watch all the time and look at my planner.

It’s coming. I can FEEL it.

It’s almost time to order a new record.

@shadowtodd.bsky.social I’d love to get some book recommendations on music… I don’t know, appreciation? Review? If you’re willing, I mean. I think you mentioned that a Sean Nelson book helped make you a better reviewer?

I want to develop the quality of my music appreciation if possible.

Not to bum anyone out, but I just read that @thekilograms.bsky.social are done. They released one last EP (the jacket is folded like a matchbook and even includes a functional strike strip) and bid adieu.

If you want to buy it, here’s the link: radgirlfriendrecords.bandcamp.com/album/strike...

Apple Music replay is in and guess what?

Can we talk about Rage Against The Machine (the album)? Specifically “Wake Up.”

Credits give songwriting to Zach, but I think there’s a lot of Tool in it. So much that I thought Adam Jones was playing with Tom. It’s in drop-D and breaks from the one-guitar sound in most of the rest of the album.
December 3, 2025 at 12:28 PM
Artist: Dead Kennedys
Album: Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death
Bought: @skeletunesrecords.com
Notes: UK import // Orange // gatefold jacket with lyrics

A required buy for any punk.

I just ordered a one-step record.

For testing purposes, you see.

It’s weird because I want it to sound good (because of the price) but I also DON’T want it to sound good (because of the price).

Anyone know of a mailing list I can get on that sends out the upcoming vinyl releases and their release dates? I’m tired of being caught unawares.
November 22, 2025 at 4:57 AM
Artist: Danger Days
Album: S/T EP
Bought: @skeletunesrecords.com
Notes: 35/200 // Clear w/ etching on the B-side (that you can barely friggin’ see in this picture!)

Always like it when a band DOESN’T include older songs on subsequent releases.

Congrats to Skeletunes on their first release!

Artist: Joe Pass
Album: For Django
Bought: Overland Records, Oberammergau, Germany
Notes: ZERO clue when this was made.

Seriously. The internet has no idea and the only thing I know for certain is that it isn’t a first-pressing because it says so on the back. Beyond that? Who knows?

It’s getting to be that time of year when there’s not enough natural light to photograph records.

So now I have to wait for sunny days and then batch-photograph them.

It’s cool, though. I’ve never been a fan of the inconsistency of temperature that comes with sunshine in the fall/winter.

The Living End
“I Only Trust Rock N Roll”
Bought: @skeletunesrecords.com
Notes: pink

TLE is a foundational band for me and I really wish they hadn’t built me up by saying this was the older brother of their debut. I might grow to like it, but it’s a LOT more mellow than their S/T.

I’m not gonna lie: if this one YouTube is even HALF right, I am blown away by the thought and care Marilyn Manson put into Antichrist Superstar.

Oh my god, how have I gone this long without realizing slurs were muted in “Money For Nothing”?

Fun fact: they don’t mute bad words in… well, at least Germany and Spain.

They’re also not scared of playing RATM.

Regardless, instances like this are shocking.

Ever wish you could reposition music chronologically?

I REALLY wish we could move Andrew W.K.’s “I Get Wet” from releasing in ‘01 to now.

Feels like we could all use some upbeat motivational rock & maybe a positive vent like a good party.

But it seems like even the great W.K. couldn’t stand this.

Blue Sky is like the ocean washing up the weirdest stuff with the tide: suddenly an influx of skeets focused on one thing, then it’s all gone, and then the next thing washes up. It gets weird, too.

Right now it’s Sonic Youth and I wanna say: another miss, Bluesky. I don’t like Sonic Youth.

I know everyone has soft spots for The Trooper, 2 Minutes to Midnight, and Number of The Beast.

I get it. They’re great songs.

But I’m gonna say that Maiden’s best might actually be The Evil That Men Do. That song has hooks for days and a fantastic building melody.

I know people roll their eyes when someone talks about the “genius” of Tool. There are a LOT of quasi-intellectuals itching to explain deeper meanings, hidden track structures, seriousness V satire, etc.

I know they can be insufferable to deal with.

But.

I heard that everyone plays ÆNima wrong…
October 24, 2025 at 4:13 AM
Not gonna lie: I was sold when The Living End said their new album was basically a direct successor to their S/T. But listening to it for the first time, I think it’s MUCH more fair to say if it’s a direct successor to anything - any album’s older brother - it’s “Roll On.”
