Coordinated analysis of long-term ecological data to understand impacts of global change.
On Wednesday, we carried out a 2-part experiment on the effects of good food and great company on a community of ecologists and statisticians at the REC Christmas party.
N = 31.
Community structure: Skewed towards postdocs with some professors and other staff.
Initial results: Very promising! 🎄✨

📍Observer bias is a known challenge when modeling presence-only data, which many methods address. Using a virtual observer approach, we investigated and tailored observer bias correction of two main observer behaviours: explorers vs followers.

Kartoittajamme ovat jälleen uurastaneet Ahvenanmaan maastossa laskemassa täpläverkkoperhosen toukkapesiä.

Kartoitusten puoliväli on ohitettu ja hyvältä näyttää!

Toukkapesiä on löytynyt jo yli 1600 eli kokonaissumma tulee olemaan moninkertainen huonoon viime vuoteen verrattuna! 🐛

We show that moth communities are experiencing an overall “warming,” with a clear latitudinal pattern: extinction in the north and colonisation in the south.

Recent community warming of moths in Finland is driven by extinction in the north and colonisation in the south - Nature Communications
As Finland’s climate warms, cold-adapted moths are disappearing in the north while warm-loving species move in from the south. This shift in insect communities highlights the threat climate change pos...
