Ever hear a song and be instantly transported to a scene from a movie that uses said song? A friend sent a spooky playlist and on listening to Season of the Witch I had this vivid mental image of Ileana Douglas skating on a frozen lake at the end of To Die For - a perfect scene!!

The ability to remove your post when a hostile account quote-tweets you is a great feature of Bluesky.

To do it, go to their quote-tweet of you, click on the three dots in the bottom right, then click “detach quote.”

It shows up as “removed by author.”

RIP to such an important legend and activist.
Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

It's SUCH an inconsequential thing but it made me so happy that it was warm enough to wear mary-janes instead of shoes with socks to work today!!!

Woke up in the middle of the night and for no earthly reason I cannot stop thinking about the OST for the 1993 film In The Name Of The Father. From what I remember the whole soundtrack really slaps

One of my neighbours made a snow person in the outside common area yesterday! It brightened my morning when I looked out the window! Still stuck in my apartment but there's this delightful whimsical thing to look at!

Black history is every month all the time, of course, but I’ll play this game. Almost a decade ago, Dan Kois and I put together the Black Film Canon, then we updated it in 2023, and it’s a great (but def not exhaustive!) primer for black film history:

Ford didn’t have a “mandate” to announce his US booze ban, so why is he saying the election is to give him one? His translucent excuse offers us a way to look back on his six years of doing dubious things without a “mandate”.
My @thestar.com column.
Shawn Micallef: Doug Ford hasn’t needed a mandate to make major changes in Toronto. So why does he need one for Donald Trump?
By framing his election call in terms of needing a mandate, Premier Doug Ford invites us to look back on all that he’s done to the city without such a mandate.

Trump’s attempt to blame the tragic air crash in DC on DEI is shamefully insensitive, but Pete Hesketh’s claim that merit should be the only consideration when people are promoted suggests it’s not only empathy that this administration lack, but a sense of irony too.
