Two years ago, I started a book club, PediaLit, for pediatricians who want to use books to connect with their patients. We are only reading #KidLit 🙂

I’ll post our monthly selections here (I used to post these over…there) and on Instagram (same handle) if you want to read along!

Carla Hayden is an inspiration. As the Librarian of Congress, she devoted herself to making it truly the people’s library- a representative and safe space for all Americans. Her choices for literature ambassadors, her programs, her social media and public interactions were all library joy.

It’s national library week!! Follow me all week for reasons to love your library!! I hope you’ll join me in sharing too. Post with the tags #forourlibraries and #nationallibraryweek

@amlibraryassoc.bsky.social is a good place to start for resources on how to support your library today!

Only haiku time from @lizgardensalad.bsky.social will bring me out of a posting hiatus. Thank you for still doing this (on every platform), Liz. You are aloe.
We used to have an incredible haiku community on twitter, back before the takeover. Our clan is dispersed now, so I’ll share via Substack, Instagram, Facebook, my blog, and Bluesky & see what hits. Share yours in response or at your own place. If you use these tags, I’ll try to find them!

Happy #MatchDay to those opening envelopes today. But to them, and anyone who didn’t match this year- an email does not define you. A location doesn’t define you. You can still be the doctor to want to be, where you want to be. You were strong enough to get this far and that doesn’t change ❤️

#kidlit friends, teachers and librarians- does anyone have experience with book vending machines? I need advice!

President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders.

Sometimes self care is polishing your nails or curling up with a good book. Sometimes self care is a mammogram. Today, I’m doing all three. If you are due for your routine health screening, schedule it today!

BIG NEWS!!! I got a grant for MG & YA books to stock in my office!!

My site is a Reach Out and Read office, so books for kids under 5 are covered, but I hate that we motivate kids to read and then stop building on that momentum as they become independent readers.

If you have a huge TBR pile from library book displays and online posts celebrating Black history month and feel like February is too short to read them all, I have great news!!

You can read books by Black authors and illustrators ALL YEAR LONG!!!

Please read this thread and boost/donate if you can. Let’s fund some classrooms!!
Okay, pals.

Time for action this month.

We're going to do that by funding classrooms that are specifically seeking out Black history books. These classrooms are those that are in historically underfunded communities.

These asks are from teachers whose students benefit directly.

This is my stethoscope. I had a mom say, “I’m glad you still wear that. Even now. I thought you might have taken it off because, you know.” She trailed off and we both looked at each other sadly. “No,” I said, “still wearing it.” She smiled & whispered, “thank you.”

So. This is my stethoscope. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🩺

Tonight I made soup which contained, among other things, small diced carrots. My 12 year old said his favorite part of the meal was the squarots which is now the only term for diced carrots, forever

My kids has a snow day today so they decided to weed their bookshelves and pass books down from one room to the other. I’ve been getting gleeful messages all day at work as they discover old favorites and pull books out to donate 🙂
