My friend got us and we managed to find the last room in a near-ish hotel. Power out for days, pipe burst in the wall, and we found an opening to leave when the house was 39°F. My car is iced at home so I’m stuck at a hotel in a different city but hey we’re safe! The cat is warm. That’s what counts!

This, the writing of Judith Shklar among others, is why I tend to focus on cruelty -- to the degree I focus on anything -- in my writing, it's why that's the subject of Parker's final speech. Of all the Ordinary Vices, this is my personal trigger.
