Sheesh. I’m five short. …and that is a lot of excess fabric cut off. Such is the case of these square-in-square blocks, I guess.

Still, I’m about ready for the next step! Yippee!

Today, I’m going to rage against the (sewing) machine…with some more square-in-square blocks.

Greetings #quiltsky folks. I am trying my darnedest to make a bunch of square-in-square blocks. They are NOT working. I starch my blocks, cut them carefully, sew them (as best I can), but I am not getting squares! I am seeking help with some successful methods from y'all to try out. TIA

I’ve been looking at many line templates for paper piecing and wondered if ANY template can be used? Are there any kinds of line templates that can’t be used? Is there a mathematical reason? #quiltsky

Grappling with quilting curved pieces together. The only method I have seen involves a curved cut to mark the raw edges. But how do I mark a sewing line on both instead? And what about circles? #quiltsky

A sample quilt block - quilting on point. Triangles and centre rectangle will be different colors. Triangles are “off” and I’m still not sure how to measure them to include seam allowance.

All the same, it’s my pattern based on a picture I saw… which means I can’t be sure about the arithmetic! Lol

Thinking about doing this pattern, but I'm worried about all of the bias cuts that might stretch the blocks and make things wonky. Should I treat the triangles like HSTs? How do I measure and cut the raw triangles based on the finished measurements?

Pieced this 3x3 wall quilt for my husband, law partner at Fox, McNevin, and MacKay.

@drlauraguertin.bsky.social I'm an academic (math educ and complexity theory background)...and a rather new quilter. I've been thinking about quilting in terms of learning, but your story has inspired me to think about quilting in terms of STEM (and STEAM!) connections and story telling. Thank you!

Finally! Made some measurement changes to a couple pieces and now everything seems to fit together as it should! #FancyFoxes

Not sure why my seams aren’t lining up. Still, they’re kinda cute. #quiltsky

Too distraught today by the WH Nazis. So I started on my next quilting pattern. It was stressful, too. Nothing was going right, which is what I get trying to “copy” a pattern from a picture. But here is the first of 16 blocks I need.

Yes, I changed the original “yellow” pieces when I got annoyed.

Found this quilt in my Pinterest feed, described as the Heartwood Quilt. (quiltinspiration.blogspot.com) But I just noticed a neat elementary school math curriculum connection: each block shows how the number 1 can be decomposed: 1 = 1 = 1/2+1/2 = 1/2+1/4 +1/4 = 1/4+1/4 +1/4 +1/4. Cool!

Why the hell is Melon Husk sitting in on a Cabinet Meeting? And not only that…he’s speaking with Cabinet. And take off your effing ball cap, sir.

Welllllll. Hahahaha. Found and attached my darning foot. Created a 12 inch block. And tried my first row of free motion sewing. This is “harder” than it looks in those YouTube videos I watched. Will try different speeds next. I bow down to all you quilters who make this look so easy! #quiltsky

I want to try some free motion quilting but want to start with some acrylic templates. But I don’t have a proper foot. Can I use a quilting foot for another machine? Can I use a darning foot instead? #quiltsky

I have decided to join the Canadian Quilters Association/Association Canadienne de la Courtepointe.

...and I might go to Toronto for this summer's CQA Quilt Canada conference. Sounds like a lot fun! #quiltsky

A tad upsetting. Made some mistakes cutting out the blocks and then tried to fix my errors. I think this made some fitting issues with aligning seams. But…it’s done. My first improv quilt - followed a picture of another quilt to lay out the blocks. #quiltsky

I’ve been looking at numerous images of quilts for ideas and inspiration and suddenly was reminded of some of Picasso’s artwork. Is anyone familiar with any examples of or quilters who do Picasso-like quilts? #quiltsky

And…it’s done. Not bad. I have seam issues, but for my first quilt top, I’m happy.

Not happy with the thinness of the fabric and how it stretches when I handle it. Also not sure why some of the measurements are off when I join pieces, but…still…. Such is the postmortem!

Still a few white sashing strips to do and then I will have my first quilt top evah! #wip
