@ebdonana.bsky.social #PhD students at #ESEB2025🧬

We shared research on bird seed dispersal, mosquito pop genomics, and Iberian lynx phylogenomics & conservation genetics.

Thank you for a wonderful congress filled with new connections and inspiring discussions.

➡️ Nice experience sharing some results about the alien plant Cotula coronopifolia in Europe at #ESEB2025
🌱🧬

➡️ We found an unusual genetic structure shaped by selfing, introduction history and waterbirds 🦆

➡️ Great discussions and valuable feedback to shape our next steps ✅

🦆 La actividad humana y el cambio climático han transformado las marismas de Doñana durante los últimos 40 años.

🌍 Esto no sólo ha afectado a la comunidad de aves acuáticas que invernan allí sino también a las poblaciones de todo el continente.

No. What happens in Doñana DOES NOT STAY in Doñana.

After more than two years of work, we’ve published an article demonstrating that the poor condition of Doñana negatively affects waterbirds across the ENTIRE continent!

Habitat Changes at the Local Scale Have Major Impacts on Waterfowl Populations Across a Migratory Flyway
Migratory waterbirds are declining worldwide due to habitat loss, but not much is known about how the loss of specific wetlands can affect waterbird populations at the biogeographical scale. To inves...

Something that has been slowly simmering for the past 2.5 years is so about to come out.

This is the PhD chapter I am most proud of; It wasn't planned. The hypothesis emerged after years of field observations in Doñana but I did not have the time or means to test it.
