I saw so much dead coral last along the Mexican coast during the 2023 global reef-bleaching disaster. 💔 What's happening to the oceans is sad and disturbing. But every now and then, a living patch, a reminder that there is still much to save.

A lacy purple-colored and delicately veined fan coral, about 1 meter wide, growing under water on a white dead coral stump, against a blue-green background of clear water. A wide angle view of the sea bottom, about 1 meter deep, in the northern Caribbean. Sunbeams are shining vertically from above through dark, greenish-blue water, illuminating a large area of dead branched corals, including some coral "logs" that are as big as young trees, 2-3 meters long and 20 centimeter diameters. A view straight down to the bottom of the sea through light green water about 2 meters deep, showing a large jumble of dead and broken coral. A detailed under water view of a stand of Gorgonian, soft corals, with wavy, thin fingers extending upward from a shrub-like base. Some are bleached dead, others seem coated with a slimy algae.
