I'm honored to say that I receive my Notice of Award for my K08 application. This is a big milestone and I'm so happy to continue to my work investigating ventilator-associated infections!!

Couldn't have done this without great mentorship. @vscooper.micropopbio.org.

NIH Budget = $48 billion in 2024
According to below - 50% ($24 bil) cut means loss of 4.15% government revenue.
Government Revenue in 2024 = $4.9 trillion
$4.9 trillion x 4.15% = loss of $203 billion

To "save" $24 billion, are you willing to lose $203 billion?

"A report by economists at American University in Washington DC estimates that a 50% reduction in federal science funding would reduce the US gross domestic product by approximately 7.6%."

Science is an amazing engine of economic activity and progress for the US ... or at least it was.
Staff members at the US National Science Foundation (NSF) were told on 30 April to “stop awarding all funding actions until further notice,” according to an email seen by Nature.

NEW: The NIH has begun terminating grants for active projects studying gender identity, DEI, environmental justice, climate change, among other topics.

At least 16 termination letters have already been sent — and hundreds more are coming, people inside NIH tell me.

As an uncle, I'm devastated for the family of this child. As an Infectious Disease physician, I'm angry at people who have spread misinformation about vaccines leading to this outbreak.

An unvaccinated child has died in the Texas measles outbreak
A child who was not vaccinated has died from measles in West Texas. It's the first death in an outbreak that began late last month and the first from measles in the U.S. since 2015.

I guarantee the infectious diseases won’t stop just because we stop the work. (In fact they will likely bloom)
