Ok, for real, why are so many of the few job postings in Middle East Studies that are tenure-track at Indiana University Bloomington this year - I saw a 3rd(!) one today posted.

I am not sure academia in the USA is a good match for me when I constantly have to assess if the university is at most one hour from a major city with direct transcontinental flights

I’m still floored at how low the pay for postdoctoral fellows are at so many universities. Like, how do you expect your fellow to live near your university if half their pay goes to rent at least
