The first of 14 Stadler Kiss 200 for ÖBB's Railjet fleet outside the Stadler factory in Altenrhein. These are the first Kiss to feature the new Kiss 200 front-end design, though not the first capable of 200 km/h. They are expected to enter service on the Western Railway in 2026

A new era for public transport in the Neuchâtel Jura. Since August, two Stadler ABe 4/8 meter-gauge EMUs have been running on the R22 La Chaux-de-Fonds - Les Ponts-de-Martel line. The new trains offer step-free access, A/C, power sockets and also for the first time a 1st class

12 years of evolution

In 2008, SBB signed a framework contract with Stadler for 50 RABe 511, which entered service in 2011. Subsequent orders followed in 2010 and 2015. The final order under this contract, placed in 2021, was for 60 upgraded RABe 512, which began service in 2023

SOB has named all 33 of its silver Flirt trains after mountains along its network. Fittingly, the Flirt 3 in this picture, named after the Tödi mountain in the Glarus Alps, is running on the S6 line. This line starts in the town of Linthal, nestled at the foot of the Tödi

Did you know trams can cross borders? In fact, Switzerland has four international tram lines: three around Basel (line 8 to Weil am Rhein, DE; line 3 to Saint-Louis, FR; and line 10, which briefly enters France en route to Rodersdorf), and one in Geneva (line 17 to Annemasse, FR)

With its extensive delays, rough ride, and omission of the costly WAKO active roll compensation system, the RAB(D)e 502 "FV-Dosto" stands as SBB's most notable misstep in recent years. Yet, it's undeniably good looking

The RABe 501 "Giruno" (or Stadler Smile) is the world's first low-floor high-speed train with distributed traction. It offers step-free access at 550mm and 760mm platforms, operating in CH, IT, and DE. SBB is currently the only customer having ordered 41 units, with 29 delivered

In 2021, TPF acquired 11 RBDe 560 "Domino" from SBB to operate on the new S20/S21 lines of the RER Fribourg. As the oldest Dominos approach 40 years of service and the end of their lifespan, TPF plans to replace them with 18 new EMUs. The tender for these trains should start soon

Stadler's first double-decker EMU, the Kiss, is a global success with over 600 units sold across 15 countries and 3 continents. As with other important Stadler products (Flirt, Smile), the SBB was the launch customer of the Kiss, placing an order for 50 units (RABe 511) in 2008

What's better than a Stadler Flirt? Only a Stadler Flirt bathed in the warm glow of the golden hour 😍

In contrast to its RegioExpress counterpart, the BLS RABe 528 "Mika" in the S-Bahn version has two doors per car and side, a distinct interior with different seats, no bistro area, and a 2+2 seating layout in the 1st class. BLS has ordered 37 RegioExpress and 28 S-Bahn Mikas

In 2018, the opening of the DML not only unified the St. Gallen - Appenzell and St. Gallen - Trogen railways but also established Switzerland's steepest adhesion railway with a gradient of 80‰. The new unified line is operated by a fleet of 11 Stadler ABe 8/12 "Tango" EMUs

The SOB RABe 526 125/225 is the first of 6 additional Traversos ordered for the "Alpenrhein-Express" service between St. Gallen and Chur, which is set to launch in December this year. Once all 6 trains of the fourth series are delivered, the Traverso fleet will comprise 30 units

Biel/Bienne is the bilingual city where the IC5 (Rorschach - Zurich - Genève-Aéroport) and the IC51 (Basel - Delémont - Biel/Bienne) meet, notably the only two lines exclusively served by the RABDe 500 "ICN" tilting EMUs

Did you know the SBB RABe 514 is the sole member of the Siemens Desiro Double Decker family to reach production? It's also the only fully double-decker EMU ever built by Siemens. Interestingly, the interior of the middle cars was done by Stadler, while Siemens did the end cars

The BLS RABe 528 "MIKA" in Spiez
BLS recently announced to order 7 additional MIKA trains for the Basel-Biel/Bienne route (IR56) starting service at the end of 2025. Interestingly, this marks the second time MIKAs replace SBB Mouettes – a similar switch happened on the IR66

The ETR 610/RABe 503 "Astoro", with its iconic front by legendary designer Giorgio Giugiaro, is unmistakable. Originally ordered by Cisalpino for use on the Gotthard route, SBB took over 7 units and later ordered 12 more. It now serves the Zurich-Munich and Simplon routes

Spanning from St. Gallen to Geneva, the IC1 is Switzerland's vital artery on the east-west axis. To meet the route's massive capacity needs, two coupled RABe 502 units form a 400-meter trainset with 16 cars and 1,288 seats, making it the highest-capacity train in Switzerland

One of my favorite PostAuto buses, the Alexander Dennis Enviro500, on the picturesque line 790 from Buchs SG to Wattwil via Wildhaus. Initially put into service from 2017, these buses marked ADL's first venture into Continental Europe when PostAuto ordered 19 units in 2015
