Keep this in mind: Elon Musk’s net worth is tied to Tesla stock—he uses it as collateral for loans.

Tesla lost 48% of its value in months—sales are down, investors don’t trust him, and JPMorgan says there’s no historic comparison.

Hype built his empire. Reality is catching up.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

More to the point, it takes one senator to deny unanimous consent for a time agreement. The House Dems, the federal workers, everyone opposed to the Schumer Surrender would be happy to have additional time to gather 41 no votes on final cloture. Any senator can do it.
2/ When you pass a bill in the senate you need to do cloture (60 votes) to start the debate and to end it. And there's things that have to happen between those votes. If those rules are all followed this bill won't pass until the beginning of next week.

This is correct. In addition to all the other grave consequences of this bill it essentially defunds a big chunk of local DC government.
I don’t think enough attention has been put on how services for DC residents are going to be destroyed they have to find 1$ billion dollars in their budgets from schools, police, fire, parks etc

I try to explain here what's happening. A bit of choreography to allow Senate Dems to fold without seeming to fold. They give up the 60 vote threshold and that's the end of the story. See below and the separate piece by TPM hill reporter @emineirmakyucel.bsky.social who gives more in depth detail.

Also, if you're openly saying you'll vote to pass the Trump-Musk blank check CR if you get votes on amendments, that by definition throws away your leverage. Republicans know they don't have to vote for the 30-day stopgap in the scenario that Dems themselves are publicly outlining.
If this is really the Senate D plan, it's a joke. Come on, @schumer.senate.gov, this is too clever by half.

The test is this: If you don't use your power to stop the Trump-Musk reign of lawbreaking and destruction, and instead facilitate it, you've failed. This plan could end up doing the latter.

@maustermuhle.bsky.social You might want to know that two parents from our kids' school said Sens. Mark Kelly and Angus King told them "contact your own representatives" when they contacted them about the bill that would cut DC's budget. Uhhh... and apparently King even said "contact your senator"!

Said it many times now, including today on the pod: the signal failure these past weeks, distinctly Democratic, was failure to lay out conditions far in advance. No Dem votes for Big Lie nominees. No Dem CR votes unless the crime ends. Shape discourse at the outset—before they beat you to the punch.
Lemme say a few more things about this. There are a lot of equities at stake in this decision. I've talked with people who see this differently than I do. And they make compelling arguments, even though I disagree with them. But the biggest throughline here is an inability to understand ...
A senior Dem aide tells me that today's caucus lunch got *very* contentious around these questions. There's clearly an intense internal debate going on right now on it.
