John snorts, "S'no like I chose it for maself, believe me."

{I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours?}

"Why yer called Roach, ye mean?" the alpha asks, considering it for a moment. "Awright. When I was still a private, got dounright pisht one night, an missed drills in the morn 'cause o it. Lieutenant had me runin 'round base doin chores. Shoudna mess aboot with a washer when yer tha hungover- I didnae notice I added too much detergent." Roach's eyes widen, and John chuckles, "Aye, suds up te the ceiling. Lads took te callin' me Soap after tha."

The story's so ridiculous it has Roach snickering so much he's struggling to breath. Poor Bonnie is sniffing at him, poking him with her cold nose like she's trying to figure out if he's dying.

"Um. Tonight. At dinner," Roach hesitates, "…he was there."

It's involuntary - a knee-jerk reaction - the way he's suddenly hyper-aware and braced for a fight. Ghost swallows back the growl that rises in his throat, taking a few breaths to calm himself. Overreacting never helps anything. Roach is with him, safe, and clearly not in any sort of distress.

Clearing his throat, Ghost seeks clarification, "And he didn't- You said he was alright?"

"Yeah- I mean, alright like… I dunno, nice?" Roach pauses, then, "He was still kinda snippy, but not at me. Oh! He didn't even ask, either! About- I mean about my… me, board, yeah."

"Eloquently put, bug," Ghost can't help but tease, chuckling when he's playfully shoved.

"Shut your face," Roach gripes, smothering his amusement. There's a small moment of silence, then he sighs, "I think… think Alpha was right, 'nd he just… needs help?"

listen, I just love the idea of #09Ghost having complete heterochromia because like
1 canon is fucky on whether his eyes are blue (games) or brown (comics)
2 it gives him a decent excuse for always wearing sunnies (it's a pretty identifying trait)

Unimpressed with his commentary, the dog simply huffed. He was reeling back to throw when something caught Whisky's attention and she let out an excited whinge.

Following her line of sight, Soap laughed, "No wonder yer so excited, been ages since ye've seen another pup, hmm?" A group of three had just entered the park, a young Golden Retriever bouncing along beside them. When Whisky whinged again, the puppy noticed her, nearly pulling the girl holding the leash off her feet.

"Honey! We've talked about this," the girl, a small blonde teen, scolded the pup, "Just because you want to be friends with every dog doesn't mean every dog wants to be friends with you!"

Looking down at his own dog, Soap nodded, "She has a point." He was pointedly ignored.

Another voice called out, "Ello! Is your dog alright with others?" Turning, Soap grinned at the boy. (Also blond, likely the same age as the girl.)

"Thank you!" The girl smiled, finally allowing the puppy to come closer. There was a moment of silence, everyone watching the dogs as they inspected one-another. "Oh! My name is Beth, and this is Honey, she's just turned six months."

"She's pure bonnie," Soap smiled, "I'm John, an' tha's Whisky. She's aboot a year and a half, I think." It was amusing to see her interact with Honey, laying down and nipping playfully at the younger pup's paws.

"I'm Tom. Tom Riley." the boy piped up, holding out a hand for Soap to shake. Polite lad. "The giant there's my brother, Simon." Right, there was a third - though he was hanging back, watching the younger two from a short distance. Sunglasses hid his eyes, but with short sleeves, Soap had no doubt.

He finds his lover sitting outside, watching Whisky romp around the yard. The sight actually stops him in his tracks and Soap wishes he had the time or patience to paint this moment. Simon, relaxed on the bench swing with his cuppa in hand and an amused smile playing at his lips. It's been unseasonably warm lately, which is something all three of them can appreciate.

Like this, Simon looks so soft and content. He looks happy.

The idyllic scene is almost enough to make Soap forget his worries.

Meddling verse once again; back to Roach POV!
Johnny boy suddenly seems to be showing an interest in the omegas Mam brought home

snips happen in this order, but aren't consecutive like the previous

Iona bristles further when the young girl wanders over to Roach's side.

"Whit happent te yer face?" she asks, green eyes big and curious.

Before any of the adults can say anything, Roach writes his reply, showing it to her with a grin.

{Fought a dragon.}

The next several minutes are spent with Aurora ("Ye can caw me Rory, aw ma friends do!") sitting beside him as he relays the tale. Roach used to baulk when anyone - especially children - asked about his scarring, because it's not like he could tell them the truth. The dragon story is something Ghost had helped him come up with during the first few weeks at the Omega House. It's changed over time, becoming more and more ridiculous as they embellished it.

Having to use his little whiteboard is painfully slow, and he wishes Ghost were here to interpret instead.

Then again, with the way Iona keeps eyeing Roach, maybe it's for the best that he's not.

While Neil fetches a plate for him, John glances between his mother and Roach, "Where's the other one?"

"Ghost wisna feelin up fer meetin awbudy jist yet," Lorna replies neutrally.

John's nose wrinkles, "Whit kind of name is Ghost?" With a small snicker, Roach unintentionally draws attention to himself, the alpha's brow arching, "And ye, whit's yer name then?"

So much for not having to use his board during supper. Neil returns, setting John's serving in front of him, as Roach finishes writing.

He turns the board for John to see, {I'm called Roach.} The suspicious way John eyes him makes Roach want to squirm, but he simply sets his whiteboard aside and resumes eating. Thankfully, the alpha says nothing, turning instead to his own meal.

The rest of supper passes without incident - mostly. Blair does throw some peas at one point, but that's normal for toddlers, really. Made the dogs pretty happy at least.

The alpha considers him for a moment, "How old are ye?"

Reasonable enough. {Almost 30.}

"An yer friend? How old's he?"

Narrowing his eyes, Roach keeps his reply short, {Older than me.} If this guy is hoping he'll spill some secrets, he's dead wrong - especially when it comes to Ghost.

"Peculiar bloke," John remarks, "What's his deal with the-" he motions to the lower half of his face, "He fight a dragon, too?"

{Ask him.} Gritting his teeth, Roach waits for him to get a hint.

"Much rather talk to ye," the man smirks, "Ye seem better at conversation, an much prettier, too."

The flirtation makes Roach freeze, discomfort and unease roiling in his stomach.

"Stand down, Alpha," Ghost says lowly, quiet enough he's sure only John can hear him, "Scaring your family isn't the way to get answers."

"I dinnae want ye here." There's less than a foot between them now.

"That's not your decision to make."

"Ye so desperate tha ye hoore oot yer little friend?"

"Thats. Enough." Ghost growls with no small amount of agitation.

"S'what he's here fer, aye?" There's a cruel glint in his eye that Ghost finds uncomfortably familiar. "Stress relief."

If he makes one more fucking comment like that about Roach…

"Think he'd catch on the first go? Maw would lo-"

Snarling, Ghost swiftly pulls the bastard's leg out from under him and lays him out flat. "I said enough."

"The feck are ye thinkin?!" Someone shouts, shoving him aside to reach John. "What kind o wanker beats on a crippled man?! Ye tryin te kill him?! He's got a brain injury for fecks sake!"

If I wanted to kill him, Ghost thinks, He'd be dead.

Knowing there's nothing he can say to excuse his actions, Ghost moves away from Iona and her brother. Neil and Blair are nowhere to be seen, likely already retreated to the house, and Mrs MacTavish is guiding a shaking Roach that way.

Part of him hopes she'll keep him when she brings Ghost back, but another part worries Roach wouldn't be safe with John around.

Shoving his hands in his pockets, Ghost observes as Iona helps John to his feet. Once he's upright, he bats her hands away - much to her frustration - and starts toward his cottage, limp far more pronounced. Both he and Iona watch the Alpha until he disappears inside.

The woman then turns irate blue eyes on him, and Ghost knows what's going to happen as soon as she starts stalking towards him. Though he sees it coming, the slap is harder than expected, knocking the sunglasses off his face. It doesn't hurt, but the phantom pain it ignites is significantly less than pleasant.

"Ye arenae welcome in ma home, ye hear me Ghost?" Her words are underlined by the alpha growl in her tone. "Maw and Da can have ye, but ye stay the feck away from ma Match and ma bairns and ma brother." Staring him down, she doesn't move until he nods in acknowledgement.

As she storms away, he's left alone in the middle of the yard.

"S' a shit line anyway," the stranger replies dryly - and bleedin christ, his voice. Pitched low, a soft sort of husky, and Soap's damn mind is already wondering what he'd sound like–

"S'pose it's a good thing I didn't use it then, aye?" Soap grins, leaning on the table.

The other man lightly scoffs, mimicking Soap by resting his - bloody fucking gorgeous - forearms on the table and leaning forward, "Look mate, if there's somethin you want, just say it. I've no patience for games."

The tone of that voice goes straight to Soap's cock, which is entirely unhelpful when he's having a moral crisis. The stranger's shift forward pulled his hood back while bringing him far enough out of the shadows that his face is more visible.

There's no doubt he's attractive, which really isn't fucking helpful at the moment.

"Wait-" Soap shakes his head, willing his dick to behave.

"Hold on, are ye even old enough te be in here?" The lad looks like a bloody teenager, and Soap may not be a moral man but even he has lines he won't cross. He expects defiance, for the kid to argue in offence - Soap would have when he was that age.

Instead, he lets out an amused huff, "Wouldn't be sittin 'ere if I wasn't."

"Don't believe tha, Alejandro seems te be fond of ye, no doubt easily swayed, aye?"

"True enough," the slightest smile quirks his lips, "but the same can't be said of his husband."

Curious, Soap raises a brow, "Sounds like there's a story there."

"Might be," the lad replies, standing - Christ he's taller than expected, "Need a smoke." He brushes past Soap, breath hot against his neck when he adds, "You're welcome to join me."

Before he can get his brain back online, before he can talk himself out of it, Soap's following him out.
