We're in sell mode right now.. but there's a constant temptation to think "with just 3 days I can get this big feature out and it'll be soo much easier to sell"

There's no anomaly here. People, globally, volunteer their time to powerful public goods the moment they're not actively terrified that they'll lose their home, their food, and their freedom. Which means that capitalism requires us all to live in fear, always - because it can't compete with free.
