from another perspective, this is honest to god like all the times people bitch about how awful and evil RetroArch, the emulator, is. and they're right! it's a pile of dogshit glued together by bad principles and awful project leads.

re: last share: i grew up on forums but i am not really nostalgic or wanting to go back to them, i really do just want a place where i can have a tight-knit community that can share stuff with each other as adults. if i could just remove all the bad shit from discord i would love to keep using it

Forums are nostalgic to people of exactly my age, but I think they just have a different combination of the weaknesses of chat clients and social media. I think what ppl miss is having a small, close-knit community, and that's increasingly hard to replicate as corpos own it all.

im not gonna get hung up on the discord thing for too long because i have better stuff to put my emotions and thought into but i'm so sick of the pg-13ification of the internet that does nothing to help the people it claims to be helping, and stamps out queers and artists

The frustrating part of this to me, as someone with a streamer girlfriend, is that there kind of isn't a discord alternative if you need voice chat and screenshare. Like discord is the only option for a lot of people's setups as things stand. If they become unusable I genuinely dunno what we do

you can't cancel your subscription from mobile but if you log in via the desktop app or web app you can! and you probably should! www.discord.gg/app -> settings gear in the bottom left-> billing section -> subscriptions

Reminder that neither Discord nor any of the governments that first enforced this provided any assistance to those who's ids were compromised during the breach in October nor has Discord gotten any punishment for deliberately changing their TOS to absolve them of responsibility
