AI becoming an umbrella term for all machine learning (including the LLMs and generative machine learning stuff) is turning into an excuse for people to rage against all kinds of ML because they think everything is the same GenAI used by corporations
I actually had to explain to someone recently that the AI that tells enemies in video games how to react to player inputs is NOT genAI and has existed for literal decades. they genuinely had no idea there was a difference. this shit has poisoned the well so bad.
I hate AI, but I think we should think more critically about blanket-condemning anything that could be ai. Big genAI, which steals copyrighted works, poisons our collective knowledge, and consumes unconscionable amounts of energy is BAD. On-device ai that lets me search my photos for dogs is FINE.

This has mostly been a Twitter/reddit thing that I’ll unfortunately bring here too but tbqh I still don’t understand haitang book’s statement about changing the TL team for “guide on how to fail at online dating” because a lot of the negative reviews I saw were regarding grammar and QC…not the TL
