Giving the audiobook of Magician by Raymond E. Feist a reslisten after some years. It really is like an old pair of slippers. I remember writing a book report on this in my english class in high school. Getting to choose really got us used over assigned books.

very sad to hear of the passing of john marsden.

he was one of the standout teachers through my schooling — in many ways similar to the character of john keating in dead poets society.

the school hated his unorthodox methods…

Hear me out: the audiobook version of the entire Stormlight Archives but pressed on vinyl.

So I’ve been playing around with newish social book site Fable, one of a few newer ones to appear to mostly compete with Goodreads. I do like much of it, but am constantly annoyed with books not being there and after requesting books to get added, they never are.

‘Gladiator II’ reminds us what we already knew: America can’t stop thinking about the Roman Empire
The box office success of “Gladiator II” is a reminder that many Americans are obsessed with the Roman Empire. They've been joined over the years by more than a few ‘America’ contributors.

So there’s quite a few prose superheroes series around these days, Are there any that are tonally like I don’t know something like Astro City? Or are they all edgy things inspired by The Boys?

@gailsimone.bsky.social Spotted your Red Sonja novel on audible. Cool to see you write long form. Is it based on our red Sonja comic stories, or is it an original tale?

Well that hurts my ain a bit. So many big authors and genres built on male readerships so clearly we do read. Though certainly as a library worker I saw male usage (and borrowing of fiction) drop off with college until retirement. Aside from the life long book nerds..we never stop.
Why don’t straight men read novels?
Men often read non-fiction books in the name of self-improvement – but many are reluctant to pick up works of fiction

@elliottkaybooks.bsky.social One aspect I am really liking is getting Selene’s internal monologue. In other stories I’ve read about these kinds of characters, authors have tended to keep readers from getting inside their heads.

@elliottkaybooks.bsky.social Started ting to Hot Restart.Tess is great as always. Thinking about the plot so far it does remind me of Shadowrun heist plots I’ve played in, just with less cyberwear and elves, and more spaceships and aliens.

So I knew that John Byrne based his '80s revamp of Lex Luthor on Donald Trump, but it wasn't until rereading "Man of Steel" the other day that I noticed just how much Byrne used Trump as the visual inspiration for Luthor.
