Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from the Australian Open with an injury. The Italian was supposed to play what could have been a blockbuster match up against Alex de Minaur. Hoping he recovers quickly and is back healthy. Sad to see the struggles he has had with injuries.

What a turn around by Xinyu Wang. Alex Eala was serving for the match at 5-3 in the 2nd set but Wang came back to take the set 7-5 and the deciding set 6-4. Gritty performance and an entertaining match by both.

Stan Wawrinka receives a wild card for the Australian Open and deservedly so. Nick Krygios will not be receiving one for singles and it seems it was a mutual decision between the player and tournament. He has admitted he is not ready physically for best of 5 tennis yet.

Its January 8th and I am seeing a lot of players already with protective or preventive strapping for niggles/injuries. Not ideal to see so many players struggling physically 8 days into the season.

Big win for Tsitsipas as he beats Fritz in straight sets at the United Cup. Good level from Stef and the backhand looking very solid compared to 2025. The win will be a big confidence booster for him. Hopefully he stays healthy in 2026!

@tumcarayol.bsky.social reported that Stan Wawrinka is unsure if he will receive an Australian Open wildcard or not. Crazy to think that a former champion will not get one in his farewell year on tour. Hopefully the tournament do grant him a much deserved one!

When I spoke to Casper Ruud and watched him at UTS it looked like he was trying to accelerate more through his backhand. He also spoke about going line more and being braver on that wing. The BH was red hot in his win vs de Minaur at the United Cup. Positive signs early doors.

Looks like Emma Raducanu has switched from her Wilson Blade to what looks like a Yonex Ezone👀 Madison Keys made the same switch in the off season pre-2025 and won the Australian Open. Not predicting anything, just food for thought.

From the short clip I have seen of Coco Gauff practising at the United Cup it looks like she has tweaked her forehand technique for the 2026 season. Very interested to see how it pans out. Always great to see the top players continually updating and improving their game.

Jack Draper is out of the 2026 Australian Open. His arm injury is still an issue, not great signs for the Brit. Hopefully, he is back to full fitness and firing soon. The ATP tour needs the top player not named Sinner and Alcaraz present to compete at the top with these guys!

Alcaraz has come out and said the new Paris Masters venue is much slower than last year in respect to court speed. This does not help the narrative (wrongly or rightly) that the ATP are slowing down the courts to favour certain players...
