I call Zoro the first mate because I think Luffy thinks of Zoro as his partner in crime, not because more capable than anyone else to run the crew in Luffy’s absence.

and the answer to that is no, because the straw hat’s embody what Luffy thinks a pirate crew is, rather than any kind of structured chain of command, and their dynamics with each other are organic and based on what’s best in the moment rather than defaulting down a heirarchy.

Me: ultimately I don't think the debate of whether or not Zoro is the first mate of the straw hats matters, because what that question really boils down to is ‘can I analyze the story based on what the typical responsibilities of this role are?’

But really I think Zoro’s more likely to be straightforward and say something like “my crewmate” because a. It's still true regardless of if they’re in a situationship/relationship or just drop the my entirely and be like “that's the cook.”

It would take support from our communities to keep artists afloat with online sales. But the absolute disrespect we are experiencing is insane.
