Pulse Emitter - Tide Pools
reviewed on @pitchfork.com by Daniel Bromfield
🪼
"On Tide Pools he ramps up to the level of his labelmates, both in its progginess and in the way it seems a little more computerized than his earlier works, with MIDI playing a bigger role."

My new LP reviewed in The Wire!

“A masterwork of synthesizer programming and sound design, Tide Pools is an impressive and absorbing evocation of our natural world and its countless organisms moving in concert and chaos.”

"Tide Pool 1"

with his network of latticed synth arpeggios & washed out pads percolating against each other, Daryl conjures the atmosphere of a inlet teeming with sea creatures & swirling eddies.

"So Many Leaves"

maybe the most percussive track on the album, Daryl dials in thick synth bass & glitched out snare patterns before he sends us down a whirlpool of warp-speed arpeggios

🎧 Daryl Groetsch - Blotted (2025)

Long form darker drone. I listened to about a half hour of this. It’s a soothing deep drone in constant slow movement.

I like it. If you’re a fan of drones - give it a try.

Not big into album anniversaries but this a big round number and one of my favorite albums of all time - Prefab Sprout's 1985 Steve McQueen/Two Wheels Good is 40 today.

New album today. Blotted consists of a low, undulating synthesizer tone that has been honed to the perfect gauzy texture to assist in blotting out the world. Designed and tested for sleep.

Steps Ahead, 1980s fusion band featuring Michael Brecker. Lots of synths, lots of vibraphone. Great stuff!

I love the music in The White Lotus. Always something surprising and primal. And it’s layered on almost every scene! The best music on a TV show I can remember. I wish I could write music like that.

I recently listened to an interview with Dwight Yoakam. I don't know his music but he mentioned he checks his mixes on a JBL Clip bluetooth speaker. I tried it, it works. It's a great representation of the way many people will actually hear your music, so if it sounds good there... Thanks Dwight.
