A broad-based coalition calling on NYC to divest from Wall Street and establish a public bank, as part of a broader vision for economic and racial justice.

As Daniel Wortel-London rightly notes, redistribution isn’t a substitute for transformation. NYC’s next mayor must change who owns and controls our economy.

Fortunately, communities have long had the solutions—from CLTs to worker co-ops to public banking. 🧵

Big day in the Bronx! Founding PBNYC member Lower East Side People's Federal Credit Union just opened its first BX branch—bringing banking to its 3rd borough.

A NYC public bank could help bring this kind of people-powered credit union to every neighborhood.

Big banks systematically harm communities of color. A NYC public bank would reinvest billions in new lending to build real financial power.

@cssnyorg.bsky.social's David Jones makes the case—it's time for lawmakers to act.

When the feds hijacked $80 million from NYC coffers, Citibank was all too happy to oblige.

In a powerful @nydailynews.com op-ed, Linda Levy of LES People's Federal Credit Union demands answers and calls for a public bank to better serve the city's interests.

Which bank would be better for 99.9% of us in New York City?

❌ A private bank owned by investment funds, controlled by billionaires

✅ A public bank owned by the NYC government, elected by the people of the City of New York

@publicbanknyc.bsky.social is working to make the right answer a reality.
Citibank handed over $80 million in city funds to the Trump Administration.

A public bank would keep NYC’s money secure—shielded from federal overreach and working for the public good.

So the feds clawed back $80 million in contracted funds to NYC—and Citibank just let them?

Banks must follow strict rules on ACH reversals, and they’re under no obligation to approve requests without proper justification.

We need answers on why Citibank complied with this seizure of city money.
"When they actually did the claw back, it caused the account to overdraft by $79.5 million," says NYC Comptroller Brad Lander on Trump yanking back funds from NYC.

"Citibank charged us a $15,000 overdraft fee. I'm happy to say, I reached out to Citibank, and they have refunded the overdraft fee."

How could the custodian banks not inform NYC officials that our money was being raided? Is any bank account safe?
The feds just pulled $80 million out of NYC's bank accounts—without warning.

City officials were caught off guard and didn't even know which account the money came from.

If city funds were in a public bank, would we have had the chance to act?
