Most expensive car park ever?

£600,000 project resulted in the opening of eight car parking spaces - six of which are reserved for senior officials.

The decision to charge more junior staff has been proposed within Reform plans to raise £1 million per year
Reform council spends £600k on eight free parking spaces for senior councillors | LBC
The majority of staff, who will not be able to use the free parking facilities available to their senior colleagues, will still be expected to pay to park every day

6 years tonight since Brexit.

It was the honour of my life to be part of the last (for now) group of Brtish Lib Dem MEPs.

I'm confident that in time a new generation of UK MEPs will restore what has been lost and rebuild what has been broken.

Our long-term future really depends on it.

I can confirm that Sex Matters has been refused permission to bring its anti-democratic, exclusionary, and bigoted challenge to the inclusive space at Hampstead Ponds. More to follow.

Here's an idea that will save everybody time. Throw the US out of every international organisation now. Trump will eventually get round to flouncing out at some point, so why delay the inevitable?
January 27, 2026 at 12:38 PM
is it unrealistic to expect the PM to have at least some idea of how to do politics?

do you think people like Noem and Miller actually believe what they are saying about ICE and DHS in Minnesota, or do you think they just project whatever message they think will best suit them?

so maybe Denmark should offer to take over the US? Denmark looks like a much more stable country than the US does right now. They certainly don't allow armed gangs of thugs to go around killing and terrorising people in the name of the government.

NEW: NEW: Standards commissioner finds Nigel Farage committed seventeen breaches of MPs code of conduct.

He failed to declare £333,000 in outside interests (more than 3x MPs annual salary)…

how many more Tory has-beens does Reform have to take before people realise that it's nothing but a party for people who have shown they are not up to the job of running a whelk stall, let alone a council or a country?
January 13, 2026 at 9:13 AM
people know Trump tried to rig the last election and has already shown he wants to rig the next one. You should be asking yourselves if he is going let the next one take place at all. Unthinkable? He is already past that point with everything else!

hard to see how the world is going to get any better in the foreseeable future

New Hampshire should be part of Canada. By what right does the US assert control over New Hampshire? Question for Mr Miller. Answer is that New Hampshire has chosen to be part of the US rather than Canada. Same answer as for Greenland and Denmark.

@yingtperrett.bsky.social I would like to send you a private message but can't. Is there some way I can contact you? It's about LD stuff.

Grok isn't the problem. The problem is the people who set Grok up.

Really? This is Starmer's response? What?
Starmer says "I want to get all the material facts together” before deciding if Trump broke international law. I wonder which additional ‘facts’ he needs? When Russia attacked Ukraine he wasn’t so reticent.

Starmer won't be drawn on whether US strikes on Venezuela broke international law
The PM told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg that he won't

I don't suppose Mike Johnson has seen what's going on in Venezuela? Seems unlikely that he has, given how firmly his eyes have been shut to make sure he hasn't seen any of the other stuff
January 3, 2026 at 11:19 PM
so tell me: what is the difference between Putin's invasion of Ukraine and Trump's invasion of Venezuela in terms of international law?

what exactly is this trans "ideology" that people want killed off? Is it code for "allowing trans people to exist"?

Reform think rules don't apply to them. But the truly shocking bit? Some of these shirts are priced at over £300!
God honestly. Doesn’t this just sum up Reform. And their plastic patriotism.
Can’t even give a straight answer or follow the rules on their unbelievably naff merch.
So on brand.
Oh well. You sell or wear one of these, you’ve told us all we need to know about you.

Something I don't understand is charities/institutions being pressured not to take money from organisations associated with historic slavery. I would say: take the money and do some good with it! Refusing it doesn't help the former slaves, it just leaves the money in the hands of rich people.

Personally, I don't think anyone should have their citizenship taken away for any reason whatsoever, whether they acquired that citizenship through birth or any other reason. If they have done bad things, subject them to the law of their country, don't wash your hands of dealing with them!
Anyone suggesting someone should have their citizenship taken away for tweets should be considered, automatically, an extremist on this issue.

We know hypocrisy doesn't matter but if the focus is on tweets that undermine "British values" then the far right has that industry cornered.

well Trump has one thing right in this post - that the US is respected like never before. Which is to say: record levels of lack of respect. Even on Christmas Day he can't stop himself posting nonsense.
Merry Christmas everyone 😊

This is the way the world as we know it ends? With the US invading Greenland?
