This beautiful object is a fragment from the base of a 13th-century Syrian bowl.

It is decorated with a hare in an ‘arrested’ stance, that is with one of their front paws raised, and their head turned to the rear. Their two back legs are usually unnaturally lengthened.

Here is a #17thcentury #ballad extolling the virtues of #chocolate, printed in the year that the first chocolate (and coffee) house was opened in London....

Because Bluesky is built on a protocol, an outside group can build end-to-end encrypted messaging long before the core Bluesky team likely would have gotten around to it. Very cool ➡️
The @germnetwork.com team has been participating in the #e2eemessagingWG to figure out a way to have secure private group messaging that is compatible with ATProto.

They've shipped a proof of concept of using your account to do this!

You'll need to get on the waitlist as they slowly add people.
It’s here! Germ DM is now an #ATProto messenger. Read our full announcement now.

When you're bored at work, you play games on your phone - on the Mary Rose they played backgammon!

This finely made backgammon board, complete with counters, belonged to the carpenter, whose importance on the ship meant he could afford to spend money on such luxuries.

Great news for Bandcamp Pro or label account users! You can now link your Bandcamp subdomain to your Bluesky handle. This integration helps strengthen your online presence and makes it easier for fans to find you and your music. Here’s how to do it:
How do I use my Bandcamp subdomain as my Bluesky handle?
Using your Bandcamp subdomain as your Bluesky handle lets your Bluesky followers know it’s really you. For example, instead of your handle being @example.bsky.social, your handle will be @example.b...

At first glance this pewter flagon might just look a bit scuffed, but closer inspection reveals it's covered in graffiti, from the no. 15 on the lid to what appears to be a monk on the side!

A great deep dive on Signal cryptography. I use and recommend Signal.

TL;DR: Be suspicious of WHY someone is recommending a megacorp product when there is an excellent free, open source option. This applies to VPNs too, not just chat apps. Beware of FUD.

This tabor pipe, found outside the Carpenter's cabin of the Mary Rose in 1981, is made of knotty boxwood.

It's one of three found, and by far the smallest, at only 45cm long.

We also have its original silk lining, which has the remnants of a tartan-style pattern.
