British Basketball stats + analysis.
A couple previews of a huge undertaking I've been undergoing the past few days after months of compiling information about new signings to our league - a 6000-word season preview detailing and analyzing every single team roster and where their strengths are/where they falter - starting with London.

Not sure Mr Glickman is doing himself too many favours in this interview.

Rival league forges ahead in fresh twist to British basketball’s civil war
Former NBA executive Marshall Glickman, who heads the consortium awarded 15-year league licence, outlines bold plans for change with or without the Super League clubs

Considering the sole proposal for British basketball development in the GBBL's plan (which is supposed to be the BBF’s key remit and purpose in offering out the licence) is a league funded central academy picked from ‘each clubs best players from each local academy’ - what does this mean if (1/8)

I'm so glad Nick got this out publicly. Now you all can see what a joke of a proposal the GBBL is.

⚫ 1 game aired live a week!!!
⚫ 25% of games migrated to whatever big arena available - screw local support and developing fan rapport.
Screw the cultural realities of British sport interaction.

Enough is enough.

Neither side is totally blameless, but ultimately the tendering process - legal or not - has driven a wedge between the BBF and pro clubs in this country. Throwing even more uncertainty over the future of the sport.

A change at the top needs to happen.

Imagine a group buying the Premier League licence for 100 million (adjust the budget a little!), and having to create a new league with no clubs and no arenas nor broadcasting infrastructure NOR any domestic football business-related know-how.

A tad fishy it's come this late, but here we are lol. A heavily experienced, 6'11" big that can move (will thrive in Mandole's aggressive screen defense). Exceptional rebounding numbers across a number of strong leagues (26% DREB rate in the LKL, (1/11)
🇩🇰✍️ Welcome to Manchester Jonas Zohore!

The 6'11" centre joins up with Manchester after the club completed the signing before the February deadline.

My early thoughts on how our 12-man squads could look like going into Eurobasket:

PG: Quinn Ellis
SG: Kaiyem Cleary
SF: OG Anunoby/Admiral Schofield
PF: Tosan Evbuomwan
C: Gabe Olaseni

Bench:
C: Amari Williams
SG/PG: Luke Nelson
SF/PF: Ndewedo Newbury
SG/PG: Latrell Davis
SF/PF: Akwasi Yeboah

A couple more very interesting players in the NCAA that I think should be on the roster bubble-watch definitely -

Latrell Davis, San Jose State, SG - extreme downhill + transition threat at a very strong mid-major conference (MWC) with a much improved 3PT shot (shooting 42%)
Now let's see what we can do on the big stage with all our top end talent that we wouldn't see otherwise I.e. Tosan, Hildreth, Anunoby/Schofield???, choice at 5 between Gabe, Amari Williams + Dan Akin!

I'm actually really optimistic we can shock a few teams this summer.

Figured I'd make a GB depth chart from the training camp (assuming Rai is the naturalised player) after @britishbasketballdaily.com's comment in his discord. Know Jacob Round as the 2nd point guard might (will) be contentious, (1/7)

As if we didn't already know - the potential owners of the new league are dodgy, with ties to 777. Given their past ties to British basketball, it couldn't possibly be that the BBF, desperate for a bidder to validate their scheme, turned to an old contact (using a proxy bidder)?

12 years in the making for Surrey to win over Leicester!!! Can't win with kids!!! WOW

Just a few thoughts I posted on X - in terms of SLB team success, it's all about finding your point of separation - Cheshire had/have theirs through their hard adoption of a 'positionless' style of basketball that is much more financially streamlined (1/5)

An interesting signing with interesting ramifications up and down the lineup - what does this mean for Peterson's minutes (who, as I mentioned did have offensive difficulties, but was clearly having a strong defensive impact)? (1/6)

Grant stating that the clubs has the option to negotiate the financials when the terms appear to say that would automatically disallow a bid is quite incredible. Not sure how he thought that would ever not come out

No league. No teams. No backing from the clubs.

Yet, the BBF has awarded "preferred bidder" status for the pro-league license to an external group. Meanwhile, the SLB continues building the sport.

Who’s Giving British Basketball a Chance?
With the SLB now asserting its independence from the BBF, the long-term structure of British basketball is in crisis. The federation’s decision to award “preferred bidder” status for the profession…

well. @gbbasketball.bsky.social basically says hold my beer to those of us vaguely critical of super league basketball. Awarding a license (apparently) to a new group without having any of the current clubs on board? How is that going to work?
