My sister passed away. I emailed my department chair yesterday if he could help me with an extension to submit grades as I need to drive 25 hours to be with my family. The answer was 'no'. So, ya' know, I'm expected to have compassion for students and extend grace for late submissions but...

HATE proctoring online exams with Honorlock. Now have to watch 50 hours of exams. Common issues -
People of color - 'face not detected' (Honorlock adjust your technology!!!)
'Conversation detected' - people talking to themselves
'Multiple people detected' - pictures on the wall
And so on....

I might be the only one - but I think summary/conclusions are pointless. I never read them in PRJs and I don't really read them in my students essays (I actually tell them not to bother writing them for my classes...😬😅)

I don't know how younger people aren't just raging against everything. Look at this house for sale in my area. $189K for 928 sq ft house. Last sold for $92K in 2002. I can't tell by the pics if the roof needs replacing but the interior shots say the house needs a LOT of renovation. This is older...

From local to national elections, I am feeling hopeful for the first time in over a year.

Watched a few episodes of season 1 Doc on Netflix last night. This medical drama is so soapy I wouldn't be able to rinse that much lather off in the shower. I think the cast are all well acted but I just can't with writing.

It is sad when a tree dies from insect infestation but from an artistic view point, this tree trunk is amazing.

Have a long list of things to do today. Done items 1 & 2. Moving on to item 3 which involves leaving the house to go to a store. Luckily checked their Saturday hours and they close at 12:00. Welp, bad news I can't do that task today, but good news it freed up some space today. 😅

It's a slather-your-face-with-coconut-oil-before-going-outside kind of winter day.

This kind of stuff should be illegal. Someone bought this home for $65K in January 2024, gutted it, and now wants to sell it for $139K; less than a year later. For a gutted house. I'm guessing the flipper couldn't afford to fully flip? www.zillow.com/homedetails/...

Joined one of the local library's book club. They said they have the books for us to borrow. Yeah, I'm an annotator. If I'm going to be discussing a book with others it will be better for me to buy my own copy that I can desecrate with ink and highlighters.

Staring at an email I wrote an hour ago (and my dinner is now cold) trying to decide if I should hit 'send'. Sometimes you just have to be direct and you know it's going to hurt someone's feelings but also work needs to progress and it's not going to progress if no one says anything. 😬

Thankful for 4 wheel drive this morning. The farm road is a bit snowy.

Regarding the murder of the UnitedHealth CEO this morning: healthcare in the United States is soooo very broken. Murdering people is not the way to change it (if that was the motive). It really is reverting back to the wild, wild, west out here.

One of my favorite things about being an academic - If I am sad or lonely or angry, esp during the holidays, I turn my focus to learning something and then I forget that I am sad/lonely/angry. Works 97% of the time.

Just put out a call on my town's local FB page for any local folks who want to start a crap jazz/blues combo with me. 😅😅 Oh Lordy Lord. The dumb things I let my brain get me to do.

Also, speaking of Grey's Anatomy. I don't know why everyone was always McDreamy and McSteamy and all the other 'hot' doctors they have thrown at us. I never hear anyone talk about how hot Ben Warren is?! Like, he is HANDSOM(!!!!) AND he is the best boyfriend/husband! Warren > Shepherd.

I've been re-watching Grey's Anatomy while knitting baby blankets for a cousin. I'm in the Covid/George Floyd season. it has caused me more anger and anxiety than living through the actual time. I think we as a society are in a worst place than 4 years ago. We have gone back instead of forward.
